I decided to go with zicasso the second time around since I had such a wonderful experience the first time. When zicasso paired me up with tucano everything went smoothly during our initial communication. My account was handled by an agent who was very helpful during the initial stages of my planning. I told her what places I wanted to visit and my budget and she was quick to give recommendations. Even if our time zones were the complete opposite, I felt the effort in trying to make communication smooth. She made my requests possible like additional destinations and she also made an effort to get me good flight deals. Also, when an additional person decided to join a few weeks before the trip she assisted him in creating the exact itinerary without any difficulty.
Everything went smoothly until a few days before the trip. The week that we were leaving, there were no follow ups on their end. I was hoping for some sort of send off email giving details on pickups and tours(exact times), a guidebook on weather and packing tips, etc. It was only after emailing them when they sent those additional information. Then during the trip when I was making a few changes in hotel, every time I would email I'd get passed on to a different agent. I found it more difficult to coordinate because instead of having one agent handle my account all throughout, I would get a different agent every time. There was also one leg of the trip where their pick up was late so we informed our travel agency and when the guy came he was telling us that we shouldn't have done that because he might lose his job. It was also in that same leg when our pick up who was going to bring us to the train station did not show up at all so we made our own way to the station (luckily, it was an easy walk). Lastly, during our trip we discovered that there were options on different activities and it would've been very helpful if we were presented with those during planning so we could've chosen some of our tours properly and not get stuck with what they chose for us. We were able to upgrade some of them but some we could no longer change.
Overall, there is potential to be 5 stars. Planning was great, tour guides during the trip were also good. They could just pay more attention to detail, smoothen out coordination, present choices/options for tours beforehand and have one agent assigned to one trip from beginning to end for easier communication.
we enjoyed the glacier hike the most. Luckily, we were able to upgrade our tour to this mini trek at the last minute instead of sticking to what was originally booked for us by our travel agency which was a basic viewing of the glacier from the deck. All our treks were enjoyable such as the Machu Picchu and the one in iguazu but the glacier trek was definitely the most memorable.
i would upgrade all our hotels and some of the tours.
