Transportation and lodging in country, plus the competent guides can't be beat. But the itinerary changed after I had sent payment and booked my airfare, resulting in an extra day in country which I didn't need. Itinerary was not fully fulfilled in country as some services were not available. The company replaced these with massage services. In total, I could have spent 2 days less in country and likely paid more than what I was provided.
The time spent on the local boats was relaxing. The long drive to Na Yang provided more insight into rural life.
The booking agent in Vietnam who is selling a package for Laos should have updated their trip guides so that they know which ones they have advertised and priced in my itinerary are no longer available. I would also insist on a refund for unfulfilled services as opposed to accepting replacements which I wouldn't know if are of the same value as per the original itinerary.
Travel Company's Response
1. Concerning missed airport assistance: because the flight landed a bit earlier and there was not many tourists on those time. My airport assistance representative met her at the immigration. However, she already paid and collected Laos Visa. The airport assistance representative refunded her the visa fee US$ 55.00 on spot. He also help her to collect the luggage and delivered it to the guide and the driver.
2. Mekong River Cruise is not missed. Ellen visited Pak Ou cave over 02 hours by boat and she informed the guide she didn’t need to do Sunset cruise on Mekong again. She would prefer to have a massage at hotel instead that was booked at hotel as requested.
3. Laos coffee plantation: there was a storm in Lao a few days ago and it was impossible to do the coffee plantation tour and as discussed with Ellen, the owner pf the coffee plantation suggested to visit his restaurant instead. Nevertheless, she advised she would prefer the cooking class. Accordingly, we have switched to the cooking class for her.
4. Ellen wanted to move the TAEC to 22 Feb 2015 (originally it was confirmed on 21 Feb 2015). Yet, Ellen wanted to go back to the hotel for the massage again after finishing Full Day Expedition and she didn’t to go to the TAEC changed as planned.
