The trip was wonderful. We saw all the highlights. The guides were excellent and extremely knowledgeable. The drivers were very professional. The travel arrangements from city to city worked very smoothly. Any changes we made were handled well. The only real complaint was with the logistics of the last shuttle to the airport, which was arranged at a hotel, which may have looked like it was across the street on a map, turns out to be about a quarter mile walk because of how enormous our hotel is and how far you have to walk to get to a cross walk once outside. It turns out there was a shuttle from our hotel that she switched to. Also, I didn’t know I had to sign up for my shuttle until we went to sort out hers. So, I could have shown up and not had a ride. Despite these issues, we would highly recommend this travel agency.
i loved Takayama and Shiraka. But, there were things I liked everywhere we went. Just seeing the architecture and art. The people were very helpful when we got lost on our own, even leaving their jobs to help us. And I can’t forget the food- I will never be able to eat sushi in the US again!
We did not really like the ryokan in Hakone, but I chose that one.. It was musty and the food was just OK. Perhaps if we had stayed at a fancier place, we wouldn’t have bailed on our other Japanese rooms afterwards. But I think as a Westerner, we are accustomed to certain amenities that are standard in our hotels, like night tables with reading lamps, that aren’t part of typical Japanese bedrooms. Maybe different in high end ryokans, but we had had enough of an experience that we didn’t want more.
