Our trip to Sicily was amazing and lovely in every way. It's a lovely country, with generous, good people and a history that is awesome. The itinerary that our agent designed for us was awesome. With each amazing city, our agent also included an activity, such as several cooking classes, chocolate demonstration, and the guides were exceptional, making the most of each day. Our agent suggested the Opera, Madame Butterfly, while visiting Palermo. My mom still tears up when describing the evening, it touched her so.
Our trip had a few challenges, as we were traveling with our moms, who are both in their 80s. Our driver throughout the trip was the most wonderful gentleman anyone could as for--kind and considerate, knowledgable, perfect English, and wonderful company. We grew very fond of our driver and grateful to be with him on our trip throughout Sicily. This driver is an elegant, wonderful man and accommodated our moms with gentle care.
Our guides were equally impressive. Our guide in Palermo and area, is incredibly knowledgeable about all things Sicily, historical and present times, politics, lifestyles, food, etc. She has a lovely manner about her--relaxed, engaging, humorous, and sincere in desire for you understand Sicily. Again, we felt lucky to spend three lovely, informative days with her. Our guide for several days in the southeast, east coast and Mt Etna area was an amazing tour guide and gentleman. It is very easy to spend time with him. His English is beautiful, his enthusiasm contagious, and knowledge about Sicily's history, philosophy, geography, food, and good fun was phenomenal! This guide is exceptionally articulate and a wonderful, informative storyteller, making every moment an adventure. We looked forward to spending ours days with him--his knowledge is impressive and such great company!
Our hotels were all so great. We were especially impressed with San Giorgio Palace in Ragusa and Monte dei Pegni in Agrigento. They were cute places to stay with excellent staff. The restaurants were all amazing, we really enjoyed the Sicilian cuisine.
We would highly recommend this travel agency-- our itinerary was aggressive, but never rushed. The guides were enthusiastic and phenomenal in their knowledge of Sicily, making each day very special. Sicily is beautiful. We loved our trip. Thank you.
Each city or environ was special in it's own way. North, we especially enjoyed the medival city of Monreale, Cefalu and Eriche, perched up on the mount with its ancient winding streets. We loved loved the Opera in Palermo. Agrigento with its Temple of Concord and Zues was magnificent in the dramatic light of dusk. Villa Romana was an one of the most fascinating and intimate example of a Roman household I have ever seen. The mosaics were splendid. The Baroque Hill towns of Ragusa, Monica, Noto and Syracuse had to be at the top of the list and went by too fast. Taormina, with Mt Etna, was a wonderful city to end the tour and do some shopping. One of our favorite nights was cooking Sicilian dishes in Taormina. It was great fun for all of us to share their kitchen and chef, learn and enjoy what we had prepared. They are gracious hosts. Actually, it was the people that we met in Sicily that made the trip so special--the artisans, the cooks and chefs, pastry and chocolate makers, and the very special guides and driver that helped us understand the unique history and beauty of Sicily. Oh, and the food--amazing!!! The quality of fresh and delicious dishes blew us away.
We would have slowed down our time through the Baroque towns and cities. They are very special, special places that we thought deserved more time and evening spent in the towns.
Our guide at the Roman Villa was knowledgable and enthusiastic, but difficult to understand in English. While I understand she was a substitute, English has to be easy to listen too. Our mom's gave up listening, as it was too hard for them to concentrate what was being said. English speaking guides are important to us.
