This was our very first opportunity to visit Europe as a family. When our agent from this Italy travel company first contacted me he was genuinely interested in learning more about our family and our interests. He wanted to really understand who we were and what we wanted to do (generally) and how how much we wanted our days to be filled with organized activities. What our agents created was spot on...the perfect balance of organized and free time and we really maximized how many great places we were able to visit in the time we had. Everyone we encountered during our trip, whether it was the drivers that picked us up (always on time or early) or the cultural guides that helped us better understand the sites and treasures we were seeing, were A+. The lodging choices were perfect...that is if you are looking for something with a little more charm than your typical Hilton or Marriott property. One of my primary goals was to make this a stress free experience, especially in terms of getting around town or from place to place. I highly recommend the private car service options that are available. For the novice world traveler, the sense of security that I had when I arrived in Rome at the start of the trip and a driver was waiting for us, and for ever other transfer we had over the two weeks, was well worth the money in my opinion. I really enjoyed letting someone else drive us around so I could enjoy the sites as we drove through the countryside while they described points of interests and history along the way.
During our last dinner before we were to head home I polled the family on what they thought was the most fun, interesting and memorable parts of the trip. The four of us took turns trying to distill our two weeks into the just a few best of moments....and we just couldn't, there were really far to many great things about our trip to Italy that we could not narrow things down to just one or two "moments". The history...the art and culture...the food and wine...and the people we came in contact with all along the way were all so amazing.
No regrets other than we didn't have another week to spend. We had four days in Florence and I feel we could have used another 2 for sure. Florence is a great base to explore Tuscany and we just scratched the surface there. I don't think we could have gotten any more out of the trip in terms of the number of cool places we were able to visit than we did.
