We wanted to go somewhere for our honeymoon but we weren't entirely sure where we could go that would be open and ready to invite tourists again. A quick search online led me to this travel company, and from the moment I started the process to engage with them to the last day in Greece was perfect.
Our contact, Georgia, took care of everything and made sure that we didn't have to do anything at all other than walk and eat! Georgia asked us questions about what we loved, what our interests are, and what we were hoping to get out of our trip, and based on our answers she created an itinerary around Athens, Milos and Santorini.
Some tips for your travel in Greece:
- Be ready to walk and walk up stairs a lot. You won't be able to enjoy the true beauty of the country from the back seat of a car.
- Please be respectful of the locals and the environment. Do not litter or leave things around for someone else to pick up.
- Try the tours and social events, but also try to incorporate a day for yourself to explore. Greece has so much to offer, give her the time to show you just how amazing and beautiful she is.
Definitely coming back! Thank you to this travel company and Georgia for the memorable experience!
We were picked up directly from the airport by our driver, and taken directly to our hotel, which was just perfect for us, since it was right in the middle of the city of Athens, restaurants, cafes, shopping stores, old churches, and the Acropolis itself! The hotel was luxurious, with awesome staff members who were kind and helpful. It was also only minutes away from everything we wanted to see and explore! We had an awesome tour guide, Christina, who showed us the wonders and hidden treats of Athens. She gave us a wonderful overview on the history of Athens and the significance of Acropolis and the long ancient history that is represented on that hill itself.
I suggest spending at least 4 days in Athens, if you are a city lover (like myself) to really enjoy it. 1 day for rest, 2 days for tours, 1 day to explore the city for yourself.
We took a ferry on our last day in Athens which took about roughly 5 hours to Milos. There we were picked up at the docks by another amazing driver who took us to our hotel, a world away from anything you can imagine. The hotel is situated on a private beach overlooking the ocean and each room comes with its own jacuzzi that allows you to look up at the stars at night.
On our second day, we went on an awesome boat tour around the island and our captain and skipper (Alex & Alex) were amazing! They showed us the different parts of Milos, where we could swim and enjoy the caves situated right in the ocean!
For dinner we decided to stick to the neighborhood of Plaka because it was more authentic with less tourists and had some of the best food spots we ate in Greece. We recommend the Utopia cafe for watching the sunset, but get there early since it tends to pack up quickly.
If you stay at this hotel, it's wise to rent a car or ATV because the hotel is pretty far from all the interests in the island. But it's meant to be since it's for couples and families who want to disconnect.
When you're in the towns, please walk! Enjoy the sights and be respectful of the locals by not making too much noise as you walk through the narrow side streets, they will really appreciate it.
From Milos we took another ferry to Santorini and that was about 2 hours long. From the port of Santorini, we were picked up again by an awesome driver who gave us a wonderful ride to our hotel by providing great context of the island and where to go.
Once we arrived at our hotel we met Rhea, who was the hotel representative and she was just delightful! From the moment we met her, my wife and I knew we met a kindred spirit. She showed us all the great places to visit while we were in Santorini, the best spots for good food and how to get around the island. Rent an ATV, you won't regret it. :) Ask Rhea about her favorite food spots and I promise you, you won't regret it!
On our second day in Santorini, we did the wine and history tour, which showed us the ancient city that was abandoned when the volcano exploded thousands of years ago and just how advanced the civilization was before they had to leave. We then went to the oldest winery in Santorini, where we tasted arguably the best wine we ever had and learned about the history of how the wine is made on the island and why it is different than anywhere else.
Our hotel in Santorini was amazing! It is right on the side of the island overlooking the docks and the volcano. Our suite was heavenly. Andres the bartender knows how to make a great cocktail and is an awesome source to chat about Greece!
