I've used Zicasso to plan many European trips (e.g,. to Italy, Spain/Portugal, and now Croatia) and like the other local agencies from my past trips, this company was fantastic!! Our agent was so incredibly responsive and easy to work with! Before the trip in the planning stages, she answered my numerous emails quickly, was available by phone any time I needed her, and was extremely patient with all of my questions (I'm a professor and very meticulous, so I ask MANY questions) and schedule revisions (I'm very picky, and she continually made changes until I got the PERFECT itinerary for me and my family). I even added my sister (a 4th person) to the trip after we had mostly finalized everything, and our agent happily changed all of the hotel reservation to get us a second room and added my sister to all of the tours. (Because my sister needed last minute plane tickets, our agent also put us in touch with a travel agent friend of hers who got my sister a good deal on the airfare). All of the details of my trip were great--it was well paced, the tour guides were extremely intelligent and articulate, and the drivers were amazing (if you go to Croatia definitely ask for this driver!! I learned more about the country from him than from any other tour--he's so knowledgeable and funny). While I was on the trip, everything went very smoothly, and if I ever had any questions, our agent was just a text or phone call away with a quick response. She even dropped by our hotel in Zagreb at the beginning of our trip to introduce herself in person, which I thought was a nice touch (I had never met any representatives from travel agencies in person on our other trips). I give this company an A+ and would HIGHLY recommend them to others!!
Everything was really great, but I'd have to say that Plitvice Lakes was incredibly stunning--do NOT miss this if you go to Croatia...find a way to work it into your itinerary no matter what!
Also, the 6 hours we spent at the farm/cooking school were unforgettable and special. It was probably my favorite part of the whole trip--we milked a goat, ate fresh fruit from all the trees, picked vegetables from the garden, and helped cook the most fantastic meal I've ever had in my life (pork stuffed peppers)--we also made home-made bread, and a wonderful traditional Croatian cake. One of the three sons hosted our visit, and he was such a fantastic storyteller (he's a customs officer at the Montenegro border). He treated us to shots of his homemade liquor (Grappa, and also quince and sage liquor), showed us the villa and property, and helped us with our cooking lessons.
We also took the ferry to Lokrum island from Dubrovnik, and came upon a stand where you could take an impromptu, private, 1-hour segway tour of the island. Our guide was great, and it was an easy (and much quicker) way to see the whole island on a very hot day. Highly recommended.
Everything was really fantastic, but because our itinerary was pretty fast paced, next time I might skip the day trip to Montenegro (although the towns we visited--Perast, Kotor, and Budva--were all beautiful) and just have a day to enjoy Dubrovnik, because it was a lot of driving and the border crossings were long.
