This is the second overseas trip that we have taken using Zicasso services to put us in touch with local travel agencies that clearly "know their stuff!" A couple of years ago, we went to Peru, a country and culture totally unknown to us, so our "request for proposal" called for a lot of "hand-holding" from local guides in the country. It was a fantastic trip.
This summer's trip to Provence in the south of France was equally spectacular, although fewer services were requested by us, and therefore provided by the travel company. Our travel agent understood our desires very very well, and tailored our accommodations in five different towns and our travels to and from Paris precisely as we needed them to be. We indicated five towns in which we wanted to spend three days each. He found us very nice accommodations in Avignon, Gordes, Uzes, St. Remy and Aix-en-Provence and offered a lot of very helpful suggestions about what to see in those towns and the surrounding countryside. Everything went off without a hitch! This company sends you a Roadbook with the names, places, and vouchers for your transportation and each establishment that you are scheduled to stay in while traveling. They provide an emergency phone number (which we never needed to use) should you run into any trouble along the way.
Our agent, personally, was very accommodating and responded very quickly to every question and suggestion for changes as we planned our trip ten months ago, and he followed up with us just a couple of days before we departed to France to make sure that everything was "in order." That's very nice service. We would certainly recommend this company for any of your customer's travel plans to France.
There were specific highlights to our trip, but in general, the most enjoyable aspect of the trip was simply driving around the countryside of Provence and making wonderful discoveries around every corner! The other thing that just really causes one to pause is the extensive, long history of the place - from cave drawings that are 36,000 years old, to Roman era aqueducts and bridges that are truly engineering marvels even by today's standards. And then there is just something really special to be sitting at an outside cafe, eating your breakfast, and seeing a little store-front across the street where the likes of vanGogh, Cezanne, and Monet once held art exhibitions! Or to take a ride up into the highlands to discover acres and acres of lavender and sunflower fields. It's a magical place to visit.
Nothing really, except to stay longer! Seriously, we took too much "stuff" with us - we should have traveled lighter, which would have made it easier for us 70-year-olds to manage our luggage.
