Our trip to Japan was wonderful. I felt really nervous about going to a country that English was not the primary language. But, the Japanese are wonderful, helpful people. They could see at times that we were trying to figure out directions etc. and they would come up and ask us if we needed help. So not knowing the language was not a big obstacle. Japan is a very beautiful place---with hustle and bustle of the big city to the beautiful shrines and temples. The food was amazing. The itinerary book that our travel agency provided us all the information about our trip was nothing short of perfect. Laura was our coordinator and she was always prompt and helpful with any questions that we had.
We visited Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka while in Japan. Some of our favorite places were the shrines and temples, the Tsukiji fish market, the aquarium with the whale shark, open air museum, onsen at our ryokan and of course the 3 tours that we went on with the guides that had been hired. We also enjoyed Akihabara as my son is into all the Japanese anime.
I am not sure I would do a whole lot different. I probably would not stay at the ryokan for 2 nights. One night would have been plenty to get that traditional Japanese experience.
