My husband, Landon, planned this entire trip with your help. It was wonderful and I liked the way we started in a modest hotel and as the trip continued through Italy, the hotels and rooms got better. The best was the last. There were pros and cons for each hotel and area we visited. I would skip Florence entirely except for the lovely room. The travel company guides were very knowledgeable and fluent in English. We were very impressed. We never had to worry that our tour guide or driver would be there. The best driver we had was our driver from Naples. He drove us twice from Positano to Ravello and from Positano to Naples train station. He gave us Pastries to take with us on the train to Florence. That was the nicest thing ever and best pastries. I hope that you tell him how much we loved them. Our driver and guide for the day through Tuscany was a wonderful host. Can't say enough about the guides. Having a fast pass to all exhibits and an expert is beyond words. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. We were treated like Royalty. Our guide in Capri was wonderful as well.
The best part of the trip for both of us would be a toss up between Capri and Positano. We loved both for different reasons. The hotel in Capri was very nice and homey. Positano had the best view of my life. I could sit there all day and stare at the boats and people on the beach. The hotel was hard to get to but worth the trek down the hill dragging my luggage. (I later learned that we could have had someone bring the luggage down but we had a language problem with our first driver.) Apparently, you can pay a porter to take your luggage down for you. Capri was beautiful and I love hiking so it was perfect for me. The cooking class at Ravello is my favorite of all time. Our host was the best Chef I have ever met. It was intimate and hands on. The local cheesemaker gave us a private lesson on making Buffalo Mozzarella.
We would skip Florence entirely. We would have spent more time in Tuscany and Capri. I would skip the cooking class and wine tasting at Borgo Santo Pietro because the cooking class is not really hands but fun and the wine tasting doesn't allow you to order wine. (To me tasting is to lead to ordering).
