Both the trip to Italy and the travel company were amazing. The customized itinerary that included lodging, transfers, and tours was perfect. The company was very helpful and we never felt rushed or wondering what's supposed to happen.
Rome, Florence, and Venice are so different and unique that it's really difficult to compare them- or figure out what part of the trip we liked best. I'd say most enjoyable would be the food (especially Florence) and wine, but the entire trip was filled with memorable parts.
First i'd take more time to learn more of the language- especially the greetings and common questions/answers. It's not that difficult to pick up and I eventually did- but outside of Rome, they don't all speak English.
I'd bring more cash, smaller bills. There are enough ATMs, but you cannot add tip to a credit card payment so you need lots of small bills for these kinds of things. Also, unless your in a nicer restaurant, don't count on them taking anything other than cash.
i'd bring bug spray because depending on where you are, mosquitos can be an issue.
you can walk around easily in Florence- but in Rome i'd find a cab stand (cannot hail) near my hotel right away, and in Venice i'd figure out the water taxi situation immediately upon arrival- saves a lot of walking and wondering how to get places.
