My friend and I just returned from a 15 day trip to Italy. It was my first time in Italy, and my friend's first return in about 12 years. We had a fabulous time and all the credit goes to our travel agent. The itinerary they put together for us was just perfect, and had a great blend of private guides and drivers, small group tours, and downtime to enjoy sights on our own. Our trip included time in Rome and Florence as well as the Amalfi coast and countryside in Tuscany, so we felt as we really packed a lot into the trip without feeling overwhelmed by the pace. Having private time with guides and drivers was really benfeficial, as we got so much information about both the history of each location as well as local insight and recommendations, and all of our guides were fabulous.
The travel team was so responsive and available--I highly recommend them, as well as the benefit of having an 'in country' travel agent. They had amazing local contacts as well as the benefit of being available in our time zone, vs in the US, when questions arose. Our next time Italy we will absolutely use this company, and are already thinking about our next destinations!
We had four legs to our trip--Rome, Amalfi Coast, Florence and the countryside of Tuscany. Each was fabulous in its own way, and we also had day trips to the Isle of Capri, Cinque Terre and Pompei. The history in the cities was very memorable, with the art, churches, fine dining and museums. We also loved the time on the coast as the scenery is so spectacular. It's hard to pick any one thing as every day was amazing --we just wish we could have stayed even longer! Some of the memorable moments of our trip were:
- our private walking tour of Florence, which included all of the most notable sights as well as recommendations/time for shopping for leather and gold
- our cooking class in Tuscany, which was done out of an Italian kitchen so was truly homemade
- our driving tour of the Amalfi coast and all of the spectacular vistas
- the rugged beauty of Cinque Terre
- spending the afternoon at a small family owned winery in Tuscany, and having a home cooked meal from their kitchen
And, of course, all of the amazing food and wine, along with lots of lemoncello:)
perhaps stay at least one more day in Florence, as it is so very lovely and accessible. Other than that, we wouldn't change anything!
