Our trip was wonderful and we are thankful to our travel agency for working with us to develop and implement an itinerary that was diverse and fulfilling.
This travel is the consummate professional; her support and responsiveness prior to and throughout the trip were as good as it gets.
We especially appreciate her suggesting that we spend time in Porto Venere as an alternative to Monterosso. The location was beautiful and the hotel was terrific. We enjoyed visiting each of the five lands, but were very happy to be in Porto Venere.
She also suggested that we spend a couple of days in Milan, which we initially had considered only to be an arrival and departure point. We had a wonderful time there and would return.
Each of the four guides she arranged for us was fantastic, which added immensely to our enjoyment.
We enjoyed the variety of our locations and experiences, which included Milan, Cinque Terre, Verona and Venice.
Again, the guide in each location contributed significantly to our experiences - each was highly knowledgeable as well as a total pleasure to be with.
While we booked opera and ballet tickets on our own, the performances at La Scala and La Fenice were definite highlights.
I would not stay at Hotel Liassidi Palace, nor recommend this hotel to anyone. While the location was convenient, and our room was quiet, it was not particularly comfortable, and far from high-end. Most importantly, we had an issue with mosquitoes (we're assuming they were mosquitoes) in our room and both my husband and I were (still are) covered with bites. We communicated this to the front desk personnel, as well as the fact that the walls were now spattered with dead mosquitoes and blood; they said mosquitoes are a normal occurrence ('at the start of the summer season' - I note that the temperatures were in the 50s Fahrenheit) and they put a citronella vaporizer in the room, which didn't fully address the problem. They also did not clean the walls. I wrote to our agent (with a photo; I have several), who sent my message to the hotel. Their response was astounding in its lack of customer service - they acknowledged the incident, said they put in the vaporizer and that the subsequent occupants of the room had no issues. Quoting them: 'I want to add that no other complain has been made from the other guest (we were sold out) and now the deluxe room #401 seems to have no sort of problems about mosquito.' Their response was defensive, implied that the issue was unique to us and included no apology. We don't know if inundation by mosquitoes is a common occurrence at 'luxury' hotels in Venice, but we suspect not. If so, we would have appreciated their installing the citronella proactively. Many of our friends have traveled to Venice and no one has mentioned this problem; otherwise, we would have been prepared with bug repellant and slept fully covered.
I want to note that the staff in the restaurant were all lovely and provided excellent service.
