This was the best experience I have ever had with a travel agency. Our agent listened to what we wanted in our trip and itinerary, and she crafted a 14-day experience that truly was our best vacation ever. It was not an easy trip to orchestrate as she had to figure out how to get my son who was studying in Valencia to the various cities we were at on his days off. Her attention to detail was incredible. The drivers she arranged all showed up on time. Our train tickets were exactly what we needed. The hotels she put us in were superbly located for walking to everything, very comfortable and inexpensive, and the breakfasts were terrific. When we missed our train (our fault) she was able to get the winery to reschedule our private tasting for 6 p.m. on a Sunday night! She also walked us through how to buy new tickets. When my brother developed a horrible snoring problem due to allergies to the olive trees (new allergy for him!) she was able to book an extra room quickly at the remaining hotels so we could all get some sleep.
The tour guides she booked were very knowledgeable as well as pleasant and fun. We liked every single one, We loved every tour we went on, and that is a first. She booked us on private tours when she figured the group tours would be cumbersome, and she was right every time. This was not just a five-star experience--it was a 10. I honestly can't think of anything that went wrong or wasn't wonderful. It was so reassuring to know that if we had any kind of issue, all we had to do was call our agent, who handled it. It was fantastic.
Everything we did was memorable! We loved the tapas tours, the cooking class and market tour, the olive oil tasting, the wine tasting, the museums, the cathedrals, the Royal Palace and War Museum, the flamenco performances, the Alhambra....on the way home we tried to determine what we liked best and no one agreed on any one thing. We all agreed that Spain has the best food on earth! The "walking tour" in Alquezar, which was really more of hike down a ravine, was phenomenal and beautiful but not for anyone who is out of shape. We walked 97 miles on our trip, which allowed us to literally eat our way through Spain and not gain any weight. If I had to name one thing, I would say the food and the tours. Mingling with the native Spanish tour guides added so much flavor and dimension to our trip.
Nothing. We wouldn't change a thing. How often do you hear that? I would say stay longer, but that's not feasible. Getting to go for two weeks was a real treat as it was. Even though we checked the weather reports before going, we didn't pack enough clothes for the cold weather, so I would pack more warm clothes if I went to Spain again in late February and early March.
