We had a wonderful 2 weeks in Croatia and Slovenia. Andrea helped come up with a comprehensive itinerary that covered all the key cities of Croatia and added Ljubljana and Bled for us, per our request. We got around by renting a car and driving ourselves most of the way and finished the trip using the Catamarans between the islands. Driving around was very easy and the roads were in great condition!
Andrea was quick to respond to our e-mails and walked through the itinerary with us a week or so before our departure. One thing that would have been helpful is one single document that captured the itinerary in one place. We went back and forth via e-mail with various versions of the itinerary that I kept on losing track of which one was meant to be the most recent version. She provided us with a voucher for each component of the trip (one for each hotel, tour, or car rental, etc.) and went through them via phone during our walk through, but I wished many of the details were written down for us ahead of time.
Overall, we had a fantastic time and are thankful for this agency in helping us put together a great trip.
There are so many, it would hard to specify! Truly, this area of the world is beautiful with a lot of nature and history, it's definitely worth a trip. Personally, we loved the city of Split, right by the water and with so much history from the Romans, Venetians, French, to now. Given that a roman emperor built his retirement palace here, maybe we are not the only ones to think of this city as a special place. The hotel there is a gem, with a truly joyous manager and staff, and perfect service and amenities. We were really sad that we only got to stay for a night there.
Certainly the southern islands and Dubrovnik were beautiful too, but we felt it was too "touristy", with the quality of hotels, services, food, etc. a bit lower than what we found in the north.
With the suggestion from Andrea, we made a detour to a tiny hill-top town of Motovun, which was definitely worth it. The area is known for its truffles and I think we had the best (and most affordable) truffles meal and purchase there.
For those who have the time, we would highly encourage going up to Slovenia - Ljubljana and Bled was beautiful. Despite Lake Bled being small enough that you could walk around it in a little over an hour, we took our time stopping for pictures, hiking up to view points that we took almost an entire day walking around it. The Bled Cream Cake was delicious!
We think the itinerary was perfect for someone who was going to Croatia and Slovenia for the first time. We were able to hit all the major spots and got to see the different appeal of the two countries. If we are to do it again, we'll try to hit less number of cities (maybe two or three) and spend more time in one place so that we can relax. We were moving from one place to another every day or two, which was sometimes a bit hectic.
