In general I found the quality and location of the accommodations to be great. The one caveat to that was our hotel in Hvar which was loud, small and had a sewage issue in our first room. All of our guides/drivers were incredibly professional and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a fabulous time. I specifically thought Lovro was outstanding. My feedback to this travel agency is to provide travelers with more information. In Hvar, for example, we were originally booked in a hotel that my friend thought would be Cancun like. Had we been given more information about the hotel, including that it has the only beach in the area, we never would’ve moved and had such a bad accommodation issue on the island. I was very put off by being told by our agent that we would need to pay for alternate accommodations when there was an issue in Hvar. When travelers pay a hefty premium for a travel agent, I believe it reasonable to expect that issues will be sorted out without asking a traveler to open their wallet when there is a legitimate issue. There was one other issue in Hvar with scooters. Our travel agent didn’t ask us if we had experience riding scooters so when we got there and the company learned we had never rides them, they refused to let us ride. There was a simple solution to let us take a car instead, a difference of 100 kuna, and our contact wasted over an hour of our day refusing to pay what equates to a $16 difference. I was appalled given the amount of money we paid on the trip. In the service industry, the customer is always right and you find a solution one way or the other. Ultimately in that case the concierge group covered the 100 kuna fee and we were able to enjoy our day. The lack of information could’ve ultimately saved us time and stress though. Other than those issues, I found the travel company to be good and lead us to some great places we likely wouldn’t have found on our own.
The guides we had did a lot to make our trip special. We saw lots of large tour groups throughout our trip and I felt so happy to have private guides who customized our days to be most special and memorable to us. I also found Korcula and the lodge there to be a highlight of the trip. To go from our less than ideal accommodations in Hvar to our next accommodation was great. The hotel was clean, beautiful and had A+ service. Our travel agent got us one of the nicest rooms in the hotel and we had an unforgettable experience there. The chef’s tasting we did was incredible and I was truly sad to leave the island.
I would’ve never changed the hotel in Hvar. I would’ve also switched the order of the itinerary to go from Hvar to Dubrovnik and have our private driver meet us there to do our wine tasting day on the way to Korcula. That would’ve allowed us to combine wine tasting with a travel day so we could’ve had another beach day in Korcula. Our driver told us that’s how most people do the trip so we were disappointed that our travel agent didn’t make that suggestion to us. In hindsight it was especially true when our ferry from Dubrovnik got cancelled and we had to spend 5 hours on a bus instead of enjoying Croatia.
