This was an overall outstanding trip and outstanding travel agency. We spent two weeks in Croatia -- the first week sailing on a gulet from Dubrovnik to Split, and the second touring by land. The country is extremely diverse, with lots of interesting things to see. We had three generations traveling together, and Croatia offered enough to keep everyone entertained and having fun. I really had no idea what to expect about the country, and it was amazing. Beautiful scenery, wonderful coastline, lots of islands to explore, gorgeous national parks, cool cities, archeological treasures, and super food and wine. I will definitely return there. And the travel agency was absolutely first rate. The owner of the agency, planned the entire trip for us, and took care of our every need. She did a great job in meeting our request that we both see the major tourist sites, but also spend time in some "off-the-beaten-path" activities. The latter included hunting for truffles in the forest with a local truffle hunter and his dogs, a private wine tasting and outstanding tasting menu at Bibich Winery, and a wonderful family style meal in a restaurant situated in the middle of an olive grove The guides arranged for us were amazing too -- all very knowledgable, personable and with excellent English. Ditto for the gulet that our agent arranged for us -- both the boat and its crew were wonderful. Overall, this trip exceeded our expectations by far, and I simply can't say enough good things about our agent and her travel agency. She personally met us at the Dubrovnik airport when we arrived in Croatia, and kept close tabs on us throughout our stay. She is first rate -- very highly recommended.
Probably the most memorable would be a tie between our time on the gulet and visiting the Diocletian Palace in Split. The gulet journey was incredibly fun and relaxing. We had all our meals on the boat, and had lots of opportunity for both sightseeing and just relaxing and swimming. The gulet came equipped with kayaks and a small inflatable boat with outboard motor that could be used for tubing or water skiing. So there was something to do for everyone. The Diocletian Palace was simply amazing. It is incredibly well preserved and, most interestingly of all, is an integral part of the city and fully occupied with businesses and residences -- both hotels as well as apartments. To have the experience of sharing a meal in the middle of a 2,000 year old Roman palace was pretty cool for all of us! As was sharing evening cocktails in the plaza of the palace immediately outside the Temple of Jupiter. Other highlights included our visits to Krka and Plitvice Lakes National Parks (both beautiful), exploring the picturesque city of Dubrovnik, a bike ride through the Konavle region south of Dubrovnik (filled with wineries), and the excellent wine tasting and tasting menu at the Bibich Winery.
I really can't think of a single thing I would have changed. The trip was just perfect for our family.
