Our travel company outsourced the delivery of the tour to another tour operator.
The personnel from our travel company were very accessible and quick in responding to requests. They accommodated my needs in the planning of the trip.
The quote was expensive but I decided to go ahead because this travel company boasted transport 4X4 with oxygen, satellite phones etc for the high country. This was not deemed necessary by the local company but was provided when I said I had paid for this. I consider that including this in my quote cost me a lot of money and I was basically charged for nothing.
There were major mistakes in the itinerary e.g. James Turrell museum was scheduled for a Monday when it was closed. I would think that this is elementary and such a mistake should not be made by a travel agent. Luckily the local guide reworked much of the itinerary so we could go to the museum.
I wonder why Zicasso didn't refer me directly to the tour operator who are based in Salta and know the north really well rather than to this travel company based in Buenos Aires. I feel certain that the costs would have been lower and I probably would have been able to add a couple of sections with the money thus saved.
The local operator made the tour a great success. The guide was proud of his region and wanted us to have the best experience. He reworked the itinerary many times to ensure that we didn't miss out on things, such as the museum. He was enthusiastic and very flexible and was keen to provide the level of service we wanted.
Great scenery everywhere.
NW Argentina is a magnificent place to explore ... the pace of life is slow, the people are friendly and interested and the scenery is wonderful.
I would probably check the web company listings more thoroughly to get to the local specialists.
TRAVEL COMPANY COMMENTS:
Thank you for your feedback about your trip to Argentina with us. I am glad to hear our local partners provided you with an unforgettable experience. As you probably know, we handpick our partners all along the country so that they give local and unique experiences to our travellers.
I am sorry that we did not realize at the beginning of your trip that you were visiting the Museum at Cachi on a Monday when it is actually closed, but I am very happy that WE (both our local partners in destination and us from BA) managed to sort it out so that you could visit it on the Tuesday.
I regret to see you mention that there were "major mistakes" on your itinerary, apart from the visit to the museum I can not see any other one. I talked to all our partners and I was glad to hear there were no unexpected issues and all services were delivered at the right time and there were no problems along the way. Please let me know if there was anything else that I wasn´t aware of.
On a different note, I can see you felt the quote was expensive, and you assumed that the oxygen tube and the satellite phone were the facts that made it expensive. However, you should note, that a 6-day tour along 2 provinces in Argentina where you went on a road trip of about 250/300 miles average per day, with a private guide and private 4x4 car, that is what takes most of the budget and not the oxygen tube nor the satellite phone. You may recall that when we were planning your trip, we also offered small group tour options, but private tours was your choice. Additionally, please note that oxygen and the satellite phone are there as a security measure since you had been travelling along routes where there is no phone signal, and reaching up to 4500 meters altitude, so if anything happened, our partners were prepared to deal with the situation. We are of course really happy these security and health and safety measures did not need to be used, but we are proud they are in place specifically at this destination. Please note that this only applies to the Northwest of Argentina, and not to any part of the country, since this region has specific conditions and we adapt to them.
In terms of the trip structure, please note that you are presuming your trip has been "outsourced" to a local partner in Salta and that is not the case: your trip had 10 different providers between the flights, transfers, buses, and 5 different hotels you stayed at. It is true that you had a 6-day road trip with one of our local partners, but we had managed, coordinated and paid services to 10 different providers along your tour. Of course it is not our intention that you take into account all the work we do, we just want you to enjoy the trip and relax, but since you mention this on your review, we feel the obligation to explain this to you and to future travellers that may see this review.
On one hand I am a bit sad you could not perceive up front the complexity your trip had, however, this also means that a complex trip felt easy and straightforward to you, which is what we are here for: To coordinate services and make our travellers have the best ever experience in Argentina!
