I can't say enough positive things about our recent trip to Tanzania that our travel agency helped us design. From my initial conversation with our agent, it was quite evident that she knew her business. It was nice to work with someone who I felt was being honest with me and steered us in the right direction on so many of the decisions, although she was also good to listen to any suggestions we had. Our trip details changed dramatically from the initial form I filled out on the Zicasso web-site, to our final arrangements, but we couldn't have been more pleased with the results. She and her office staff were always good to respond to our many, many questions that came up since it was our first trip to Africa.
All of the lodges we stayed at were wonderful, but different in their own right. There were no details that were not taken care of before hand, which helped the trip run smoothly from start to finish. Our driver/guide also helped make our trip special since his knowledge of the area and animals helped make the most of our time on safari, plus he also had a sense of humor and thoughtfulness to make sure everything ran according to plan.
Although we knew we were not going in high season (June 1st) it was such a nice surprise how uncrowded the lodges and parks were and the weather could not have been more perfect. We would suggest this time of year for anyone to visit and felt that our trip would have totally changed, not for the good, if everywhere we had gone there had been large crowds. We had such personal service everywhere.
One the most memorable parts of the trip was our morning walk to the Olduvai gorge with the Maasai out of Olduvai Camp. We had a chance to see how these people really live. We felt very honored. And of course, being able to walk up to a group of giraffe was also pretty special.
Our other special time was sitting in our truck, in the shade of a tree for at least an hour while the wildebeest migration went on around us. We were in the middle of probably 75,000 animals. It was all just perfect timing to be there at the moment it was happening, especially since that morning we changed up our plans for the day when one of our party members wasn't feeling well.
Not visit the Maasai village. It was a completely different experience than walking with them to the gorge - way too commercialized and totally geared towards getting the maximum amount of money from you. The whole experience was totally off-putting.
Besides that, we wouldn't change anything.
