Our travel agency did a fantastic job of trying to understand the trip my wife and I were looking for. They truly spent the time needed to determine what we like, as well as don't like, and were very flexible in presenting an itinerary that delivered what we were looking for - both for location, travel time in-between cities, activities, and lodging.
In terms of the trip, we were extremely satisfied; so much so, we need to figure out how to go back to Africa, and would certainly look to this company as an expert to help us plan that trip! While we certainly had a hectic schedule, it's what we wanted - to get a taste of the southern part of Africa and explore what it had to offer. We felt we had the right 'teaser' of what's out there and gave us the excitement we were looking for. Each hotel we stayed in was boutique style, and came with a beautiful and professional staff, great accommodations, and a big contribution to our visit being so well regarded.
Starting off in Victoria Falls was such a great way to open up to Africa. Most of the people we met along the way were ending with Victoria Falls, as a place to unwind at the end of the trip. While I understand that, Victoria Falls (especially the property we stayed at ), had a very nice "Africa" feel at the beginning of the journey without too many activities planned that would have been challenging while recovering from jet lag. We will also never forget the sights, scenery, food, and wine in Cape Town - such a beautiful city that has so much to offer. We were very surprised of the high quality of all mentioned in Cape Town. During our Safari, we will always remember the guides and trackers that will critical for our experience - from the animals to the stars at night - every one making it an amazing journey. In Mozambique, desert like beaches, mixed with greens and blues of water, relaxing in the sun and unwinding at the end of our trip was also fantastic. And finally, staying in Franschhoek in South Africa's wine country was such a beautiful experience that made Napa and Sonoma look like "newbies" on the wine scene.
We would do two things different: 1.) we probably did not need to do the shark cage diving in Cape Town. It was a 3:00 a.m. pick-up time and a long day. Our travel company did tell us that it's a nice 'check the box' off the bucket list type of activity, but the visibility is typically poor to average and it's a lot to do in a day that will leave you exhausted and 2.) we should have found a way to add an extra day at each place visited. We did the highlights, but would have been nice to have that extra day to deep dive the city we were visiting.
