We were looked after very well. Every airport, every hotel, every bush camp, there was always someone
there to watch out for us.
Seeing the top 10 animals in Africa plus many more. City tours with our guides. The food was always absolutely
2 Safari days in each of 3 camps would be great for a total of 6 days, instead of 13 days in 5 camps.
Visit and tour more cities and more shopping. You don't need all the tan colored clothing.
I was absolutely Camped out, Safaried out with 13 days in 5 Camps. The Camps you planned for us were all the same Company and all run the same way , , same route, same accommodates .same old, same old.!!! It would have been nice to have only 2 Safari days in each of 3 Camps for 6 days.
And definitely more variety like touring cities and more shopping like my husband suggested.
And another thing why were we charged $24.00 American Dollars each total of $96.00 US, when we were booked at one camp for 4 days and requested that we only stay 2 days and move to another camp for the other 2 days ? My Gosh, same area, same company, same accommodations Same old, same old !!! It would have been the same travel distance driving us to the plane to Nairobi, Kenya from camp Mara , so don't use that as an excuse ! Just because we had asked to change instead of 4 nights in one Porini Camp Mara we asked to spend 2 nights at Porini Camp Lion . When we asked why we had to pay the $96.00 US no answer was given.
Also when we were at Camp Mara, it rained and our Tent roof leaked , so we were walking on wet floors. Also I sat on the chair in our tent and i'm not a big person and it broke , flying me backwards , causing me to hit my head on the back of the desk. I had a spitting head ache for the rest of the day! I suggest Pkorini Camps , make a route check of your tents so this doesn't happen to someone else.!!
Last but lest............When we arrived in Nairobi, you asked us if we wanted you to book us in to a hotel for 6 hours , so we could rest and repack ??? The cost would be $ 100.00 US a person. And then your driver would pick us up and take us to the Airport (you made no other suggestions ). We of course said no, because why would we want to spend our last free day in a hotel, in Nairobi Kenya.that was close to the airport. Lucky enough for us we got our luggage from your driver that met us at the Wilson airport in Nairobi, and jumped in a cab, that was suggested by a family who lived in Nairobi Kenya that we had met at one of the Porini camps. This driver drove us around to see sights and shop, and to have dinner in a fun filled restaurant, then off to the Airport at 8:30 p.m. all for the price of $ 40.00 . I think you blew it !!!
TRAVEL COMPANY COMMENTS:
While we truly appreciate the overall favorable review, we were disheartened to read about the disappointments these clients faced while on safari, most notably the issues regarding the similarities between some of the camps and the plan for their last day in Nairobi.
As part of our value proposition, we do our best to design safaris that suit each client’s individual preferences and budget parameters, which is what we were attempting to do in this case.
On that note, it is true that of the 8 different properties selected for their 29-day journey, 3 were part of the same collection. We went this route as we were able to secure special pricing from that collection if 3 or more of their camps were utilized. By doing this we were able to stay within the clients’ budget and still provide them with opportunities to enjoy time in private conservancies, thus in less crowded wildlife areas that also afforded the chance to go off-road and engage in various other activities not allowed in other areas.
With respect to the $96.00 surcharge – once on the ground in Africa, the clients decided they wanted to adjust their itinerary a bit by substituting a different camp for the one we had planned for two nights. The camp accommodated this request but, as the new camp was not part of the special offer noted above, there was an additional cost required. (When we learned that the clients were planning to move we negotiated a lower surcharge on their behalf.)
In their review, the clients expressed frustration at not having this additional charge explained while they were on the ground, which we absolutely understand. We were not aware that they had not been informed of the reason at the time; had we been apprised we certainly would have ensured all of the above was explained to them before they left camp. (While we don’t know for certain, we believe the camps may have been reluctant to discuss details of the additional charge with the clients directly as they were being sensitive to us as the tour operator.)
Regarding the issues with the leaky tent and the broken chair: we have advised the director overseeing all the camps in the collection of these incidents as we agree these are important to investigate further. We are waiting to hear back from them.
Finally, with respect to the last day --- while in the planning process with these clients we offered a day of sightseeing to include the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Center and the Karen Blixen Museum, all with a private, professional guide. We also offered a dayroom with and without dinner as an option, as their international flight out of Nairobi was leaving late in the evening. At that time, the clients determined neither the pre-arranged tour with a professional guide nor the dayroom were of interest, thus they were omitted from the itinerary.
As a point of fact, we would not recommend clients hail a taxi at the airport in lieu of a pre-arranged, professionally guided tour. While one might have the good fortune to secure a great cabbie and a fun adventure (which it appears these clients did), we strongly prefer our clients have a pre-booked, professional guide waiting for them on arrival to avoid disappointments. Although this is a more expensive route, it is far more reliable and, in our view, rewarding.
