Overall we had a fantastic trip to Nepal and India. From start to finish the travel team (more specifically the trip planner) took excellent care of us. The accommodations (the hotel group) were superb. At one point in the trip we had a mix up over one of our reservations at one hotel. The trip planner went above and beyond to make sure that the issue was resolved to our satisfaction. In fact, in an effort to make things right and at a greater cost to the travel team at the next city we ended up with much better accommodations than what we were promised. This more than anything else showed us the travel team's commitment to providing their clients with the best possible experience and excellent service. We have already had few inquires from friends asking us if we would recommend the travel team, and we have said absolutely yes without hesitation.
With a trip of as comprehensive as this one was it is difficult single out one or two moments that stand out from the rest. The trip as a whole was wonderful. However, if I were to give some impressions I would have to say the Indian people really stand out in my mind as being a highlight. They were friendly, kind, and seemed happy to have us as guests in their country. A good example of this was a cooking class we had with an Indian family. They welcomed us into their home where they showed us wonderful hospitality, showed us how to cook a few Indian dishes, and then shared a meal with us at their table with the whole family.
As far as sights, and there were many, it is hard to beat the Taj Mahal. After a lifetime of seeing pictures, seeing movies, and hearing stories about the Taj Mahal, there was nothing like seeing it in person. It is magnificent.
I have mention this already, but I just can't say enough about the hotel group where we stayed. We have never stayed in more beautiful hotels anywhere in the world. The grounds, the rooms, the food, and mostly the service was impeccable.
The only thing we might change is to bypass Ranthambhore all together. We found that the effort to get there was not worth the offerings once we arrived. This is a matter of personal taste, and I am sure many people would disagree with us. It is a very quiet and peaceful place, and may be better suited for a longer stay where rest and relaxation are the goal.
Also, looking back I wished we had ventured out and tried eating dinner out at more local restaurants. I think the combination of being tired at night, the excellent restaurants at the hotels, and being a little nervous about getting out at night kept us dining in the hotels most nights. The few times we did eat out the food was excellent.
