I absolutely loved using Zicasso to plan my Italy vacation. They had excellent customer service and I was very pleased with my travel experience. We didn't really take advantage of the in country 24/7 service but it was nice to know it was there.
Having the champagne and fruit in our room upon check-in was a very nice gesture.
The trip planner listened to my particular needs and interests and created a truly customized and special experience for my family. I feel like we had the perfect balance of scheduled activities and down time.
The drivers and tour guides were excellent and most of the accommodations were wonderful.
Some of our day trips were just amazing like touring the Amalfi coast, walking around Sienna and driving out to Assisi to take in the beauty of the countryside and marvel at the cultural and religious history. I wish we could have actually stayed in Amalfi a few days as well as Assisi but it was perfect for our timeline.
The tour guides were local experts and even helped us make lunch/dinner reservations at some excellent places.
The David in Florence was even more impressive than I expected.
The free day in Florence was lovely because we got to explore at our own pace and have an incredible and leisurely meal. Riding the carousel in the piazza and eating gelato with my daughter was my personal highlight.
Breakfast in the huge sun room at the hotel in Sorrento was a special way to start our day. Unfortunately, we didn't get to swim in the pool because it was too cold but it was still nice to sit by it and look at all the beautiful lemon trees.
All of our hotels were in great locations which made it easy to see a lot and have a convenient home base.
The biggest disappointment of our trip was our hotel in Rome. I would not stay there again. Our rooms were in a different building around the corner from the main building and it felt run down. You did not need a key to get in the building during the day so security was a concern. The rooms themselves were not in great shape (scuff marks and stains on the wall) and it felt cheap. The handle on the shower broke off when we turned the water on. There were heaping piles of garbage outside the door to our suite and the wifi was spotty. They charged for everything in the room including coffee and tea. They lost power for a time and the elevator wasn't working so we had to climb many stairs with a toddler and 2 elderly people.
The coffee at breakfast was excellent and it was in a good central location. The staff was also pretty accommodating although we felt rushed when we called to ask for help with things like calling a taxi or help with luggage. Also, being that "reception" was a block away it sort of defeated the purpose of being in a hotel.
Aside from the hotel in Rome, there are not many things we would change about our trip except maybe go for longer to be able to see more and have even more down time. Also, ideally we would have found a flight that would have enabled us to fly into the first city so we didn't have to drive so far but it worked out okay.
