I am not a person who writes online reviews. In fact, we took this trip over a year ago. The trip we took was an incredible experience, and we would love to have a similar experience some time in the future (preferably sooner than later).
I wanted to give my wife a trip of a lifetime to Europe, to celebrate a milestone birthday. We have two children, and wanted them to share this experience with us. We had never been to Europe before.
I found Zicasso online, and thought that their mission, to match clients with top-notch travel agencies, sounded like it would help me achieve my goals for the trip. Our agent at the travel company, provided us a vacation/trip/tour/experience of a lifetime.
Our travel planner and my wife spoke on the phone about what we would like to do, what we would like to see, and our personal interests, ages and experiences. This travel company was able to put together an itinerary which allowed our family to experience each of the cities we visited. In each city we had private guides who engaged with every family member.
Another key benefit to our trip was that every transfer was accounted for - there was a driver, a guide, an escort for every step of the trip. We never had to worry about figuring out where to drive, where the roads went, or even which side of the road to drive on.
We visited London, Paris, Venice and Rome as part of our trip, with an afternoon stop in Florence and a couple of nights near Cortona as a short break mid-trip.
In London, our cab guided tour of London was wonderful. We were picked up at our hotel in Kensington, and stopped by many famous landmarks. His commentary provided both current and historical context. And a couple of stops were locations which were used in filming the Harry Potter movies.
In Paris, our guide drove us around the city and showed us several landmarks, and later we met a second guide who guided us inside the Lourve. And lunch on the Eiffel Tower and a quick trip out to Versailles were both special treats.
In Venice, we had an awesome suite (the best room of our trip), and enjoyed walking around the areas away from St. Mark's Square and finding our meals a little bit off the beaten path. Our guide showed us the Grand Canal, and took us out to Murano.
We spent an afternoon in Florence with our next guide visiting the Accademia and Uffizi Museums, with a short break getting gelato at a local shop next to the river.
A short stay near Cortona let us take a break from the pace in the larger cities, and get ready for Rome.
In Rome, we had our guide for two days, visiting many of the ancient Roman ruins and city sights the first day, followed by a quick tour of the Vatican on the second day.
I don't know if I would do anything differently.
When we go back, we would want to see more, and do more, in each of the places we stayed. Each of the cities deserve so much more time than we were able to spend on this trip.
In London, we were within walking distance of the Victoria & Albert Museum, and didn't get there. Nor to Penny Lane, or a play in West End. Or even to have a pint or two in a local pub.
In Paris, a dinner cruise on the Seine would have added to the experience - or more than the few hours we spent at the Musee D'Orsay. Or another few nights enjoying meals at the street cafes.
Rome has so much history to offer, our few short days spent there are insignificant to the millennia it has existed.
