As we brainstormed Australia trip, our goal was to scuba dive on great barrier reef. The tour planner did a great job of pointing out the pluses and minuses of live aboard 4 day option, highlighting jelly fish issue at Hamilton Island during December, long boat rides from Port Douglas, and ultimately guiding us to consider Fiji as a beautiful scuba option that was easy to access from land. He recommended VOMO island which turned out fantastic....easy to access from Nadi Intl airport, felt completely remote, excellent food and variety, beautiful accommodations, scuba diving 10 min off shore, hiking, snorkeling and fitness club to enjoy as well and literally no one on the beach in either direction. I would never have found this place without the tour planner and it was perfect for our entire family. I'd make the choice to go to VOMO island over Hawaii....definitely worth the extra flight time. The tour planner also chose the ranger penguin tour rather than the standard tour at Phillips Island near Melbourne which was a definite plus and gave us small viewing area of 30 people compared to the 4000 in the general viewing area. Apartments in Melbourne also had all the amenities we were looking for and in good location
We loved VOMO island and would like to return. Service, food, location, exclusiveness, and scuba access were great. We also loved the restaurant in Sydney for New Year's eve. Easy access from our friends house, table right at the corner so we could go out for viewing but stayed dry when it rained twice. Pace of food was excellent. Service was great and wine glasses were always full. The viewing is on the other side of the bridge but $800 less than the other restaurants on the other side of bridge. I would save the money and still have the amazing food and location and ease.
The tour planner recommended the twilight tour for the Sydney bridge. It got booked on our last night rather than the second to last night which threw us off for dinner plans. The voucher did not match the itinerary so I would check both before trip. The twilight tour is nice because not hot but if you want to enjoy Sydney cocktails and/or nice dinner it throws your plans off because you have to pass a breathalyzer test before and the tour lasts from 6:15pm to 9:45 which was way too long. I would take the quick ascent tour as it only takes an hour and probably schedule around 4pm or maybe around 11am in the morning. The bridge tours were insanely busy and slow over the New Year's time period. Lastly, because our plans were off on the second to last night and all the restaurants were full, we ended up eating dinner at a hotel in Sydney which was actually amazing and would highly recommend......night view of harbor, absolutely no one else in the lounge at 9pm and the food was good. The tour planner recommended this hotel specifically since it has the best lounge in the city and he was absolutely right....we used it for breakfast, dinner and cocktails.
