We had a fabulous trip to Spain and are very grateful for all of the hard work that our agent and his team dedicated in organizing this great experience. Their great planning efforts, and extreme attention to detail, allowed us to sit back and really enjoy our time in Spain and not have to worry about what needed to happen. After just a couple of emails and a few brief conversations they were really able to get a sense of what type of travelers we were and what we'd enjoy, and hit the mark with everything on the itinerary. The guides they chose were extremely knowledgable and really enjoyed what they did, making it more fun for us, and the hotels we stayed at were a perfect "home" base, right in and near the all action. Furthermore, they also went out of their way to help us resolve a baggage issue that popped up.
Overall, our travel company did everything they could to make sure we had an incredible trip. If we ever head back to Spain we'll definitely be using them again, and we will certainly continue to refer other travelers their way.
This list could get really long, really quick so I'll narrow it down to the top two experiences we had in our 17 day trip.
We went to the island of Menorca for the last 3 days of our trip to Spain. The island was everything we hoped it would be, and more. After mentioning that we were thinking about going to this island, our agent asked if we wanted to experience a "real" Spanish festival and recommended the Festes de Sant Joan in Ciutadella. We completely rearranged when we were planning to go to Spain to see what this was all about. It was a great recommendation and a once in a lifetime experience. This was a definite highlight of the trip! For those who haven't heard of it, google "Menorca Horse Festival" and you'll get some idea. Just going to the festival itself would have been great, but we were paired with an incredible guide, making it 100% better as we actually got to learn what was happening and the history behind it. In addition, they arranged for us to watch a few of the riders and horses get ready, which not even the citizens of Ciutadella get to do. We even had another guide from the company make time to meet us on her day off, bringing us some local treats and a gift. Everything here was way beyond our expectations!
The second experience was a boat we had chartered for a day in Menorca, taking us around part of the island to check out the beaches, snorkel, paddleboard and just relax. Our guide was hilarious and we had a great time just hanging out with him on the boat. He would take us right up and into caves carved into the side of the island, and knew when the big tour boats would be at certain beaches and when to go so we had it mostly to ourselves. He also made us a delicious paella lunch right there on the boat. This excursion was a little expensive so I was a bit apprehensive, but it ended up being worth every penny. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It was a great way to wrap our visit to both Menorca and Spain.
I think the only thing I'd do differently if I could take my trip again is to find some way to stay an extra few days in Menorca. The place was so relaxing that we didn't want to leave! I may also try to spend another day in San Sebastian and do a guided Pintxos tour. We were able to find a ton of incredible food on our own, but I have no doubt that there were a few hidden gems we missed. Of all the food we ate in Spain, the food here was by far the best.
