My boyfriend and I recently took a trip to the Andalusia region of Spain using the services of a tour company that we found through Zicasso, spending 8 days and 7 nights in Madrid, Cordoba, Grenada and Seville. While we were hesitant at first to use an online agency and based our decision only on past travelers’ reviews, we could not have been more satisfied with the overall experience. Upon first receiving our request for a proposal, our Spain travel company differentiated itself from the competition by promptly responding to our every inquiry while making any requested adjustments or providing potential additional options. When we received our travel agent's first quote, we found that his proposed itinerary was going to be above our budget, which we did not initially communicate to him. After we provided him our monetary guidelines, our agent swiftly adjusted the itinerary to fit our budget, without sacrificing any of the areas we wished to visit or sites we wished to see - only reducing days and method of travel. Additionally, all of our communication was done via email. While email communication is second nature to most of us, there is an added level of complexity when one of the parties is writing in a language that is not their native tongue in a time zone 6 hours ahead. Our travel agent not only has an outstanding grasp of the English language, both spoken and written, but he is also extremely cognizant that prospective travelers in another time zone are most likely doing most of their planning after their work day or on weekends. We were most pleasantly surprised when we would receive a very prompt, clearly communicated email response to all of our inquiries, which quite frankly, made the planning process much more efficient and less stressful. It is apparent that our travel agent takes the time to hand select all of the hotels in which he puts his clients, as each of the 4 hotels that we stayed in not only had exemplary customer service, but also were located in prime locations for the attractions of each respective city. Additionally, we found that the personal tour guide that he set us up with was extremely knowledgeable of the historic site (The Alhambra in Grenada in our case) as well as the surrounding area/Andalusia region. He spoke perfect English and was able to provide us with details and insight that we never would have gotten without his services. While we opted not to have a personal tour guide in each city, our agent highly recommended that we use one for The Alhambra, to which we are so thankful as it significantly enhanced our experience in Grenada. While agent was extremely respectful of our budgetary constraints, his in-depth knowledge of the area allows him to advise on which areas to cut costs, should you need. While we very easily could have opted not to pay for the services of the personal guide, we can honestly say that his recommendation to use one at The Alhambra provided for a much more rewarding experience – and we still were within our budget. Every detail of the itinerary was emailed to us well in advance while we received a trip portfolio, complete with connecting train tickets, city maps and other local highlights, upon checking in at the first hotel. As we boarded a connecting train or checked in at a different hotel, everything was surprisingly seamless, as our travel agent had ensured that all details were taken care of well in advance so we could fully enjoy our Spanish experience with no logistical issues. Additionally, our agent provided us his personal cell phone number and requested that we do not hesitate to contact him, night or day, should we have any issues (which we did not need to use as everything was perfect). Finally, on our last day of the trip, our agent took the time, on New Year’s Eve I might add, to personally join us for tapas and a drink at a local Madrid market. Not only was this gesture extremely classy and professional, but it clearly showed that he stands by his product and is willing to take accountability for what he provided to us, which was nothing short of a fantastic 8 days in a most beautiful part of Spain. Thank you Zicasso – you left us with a lifetime of memories that we will always cherish.
The guided tour of the Alahambra was definitely up there among our favorites, but I would also say every hotel that our travel agent chose was perfectly, centrally located which also really aided in making our trip so enjoyable. And all of his recommendations for things to see, places to eat, etc. were also all wonderful!!
I would try to stay longer!!!
