This was our first trip to South America, and our second trip using Zicasso. The agent that we decided on seemed to be very professional. We wanted to experience a nice trip that didn't have to be the Ritz, but definitely a 4 star experience. We decided on a cruise through the Galapagos and Macchu Pichu. Our guides that met us at the airport ,and the hotel the next morning, were wonderful. They spoke excellent English and were very professional. The Hotel that we first encountered in Quito for a layover was FAR from the airport. I now understand that it's because Quito has built a new airport 1 hour away from anywhere. We arrived at night and drove 1 hour to our boutique style hotel, just to wake up at 3:30 am for our connecting flight to Baltra. We really didn't get a chance to experience the hotel in Quito, but our room was extremely small. (I thought it was a 2 1/2 star room). I don't know if this is typical of all hotel rooms in South America, but some of our accommodations seemed to be cramped, dated, and not in the ideal locations for what we thought our fee should include.
The ship that our travel company placed us on was comfortable. The Coral I was a nice pick for us. Not over-the-top, but we were pleased. Our next hotel in Lima, was directly across from the airport which was a perfect fit for our needs, (31/2 - 4 star hotel) The guide that met us at the airport was again, excellent. She gave us all the information that we needed for the remainder of our trip. Our next hotel in the Sacred Valley, Inkatalpa (31/2 star) was fine. It was off the beaten path, but quaint and relaxing. No air conditioning, no tv, no in room wifi,
Our guides in the Sacred Valley were top of the line! We definitely scored big time with wonderful guides throughout our trip. That is definitely the Best thing about this travel company, they hire excellent guides that speak English. They were professional and on time.
The train ride to Macchu Pichu was great. Our hotel in Aguas Calentes (21/2 - 3 stars) wasn't in a great location, uphill and hard to reach. The room was musty and not what I considered a great pick. Macchu Pichu was Fantastic! Breathtaking. Our hotel in Cuzco was less than desirable. It was cramped (almost coffin like), with no air conditioning, fan or windows for a cross breeze.(maybe a 2 1/2 star) The only window opened up to the lobby area and was noisy during the mornings through the afternoons. The staff at the hotel was very nice and accommodating, but the WiFi wasn't working and the location was about 6 blocks or so from the main square and kind of in a sketchy neighborhood. Even the hotel staff said to be careful when walking outside with my Ipad while trying to located Wifi access. I promptly emailed our travel company of our disappointment with our hotel, and they quickly replied to us and offered to change our hotel the NEXT day, due to the fact that all hotels were booked due to a holiday in Peru. We agreed to change hotels at first, but then decided that since we were leaving at 4:15 am to catch our flight, we would stay another night.
All told, I thought that this company provided us with excellent guides that met us at every airport, great at speaking English, knowledgeable, kind, prompt, wonderful (Definitely 5 STARS). The hotels that they provided were disappointing (generous 3 STARS). The agents that we dealt with through emails and telephone conversations really tried to make things better(4 STARS), but I guess we had higher expectations than what we felt were delivered.
Macchu Pichu. The friendly guides and people me met along our trip
Stay at better hotels.
