This travel agent and her company were absolutely wonderful. More than a year in advance of our travel we used Zicasso to match us with a travel agency to help us plan our destination wedding/honeymoon in New Zealand and French Polynesia. Zicasso referred us to this travel agent - everyone's questionnaires really helped to hone in on how we wanted to spend our money and our time. I usually plan our vacations, but this was such a good experience I would use this process again for international travel. We had all of our transportation fully arranged and worry-free, the hotels & breakfasts were exactly what we were hoping for, and we had the down time we wanted to hike, explore, and relax on our own. There was no pressure to do add-ons we did not want and there was flexibility to make changes as the itinerary became finalized. Our agent even thought to include things like insurance and a GPS for our rental car - a must when driving internationally in my opinion. We had the trip of a lifetime!
Putting our wedding ceremony aside, because that was the absolute apex for us, there were so many special moments. It's difficult to summarize what we most enjoyed... We loved starting in Queenstown where we could really get into vacation-mode; being right in town and on the lake at St. Moritz was perfect. We got to hiking our first full day, which was possible without a car from the gondola area. On the West Coast, at the glaciers, the surprise upgrade to the Te Waonui resort was amazing and probably our favorite hotel overall. We had our best hikes in this area, but also could have just relaxed at Te Waonui and the hot pools and been happy! We also appreciated ending the New Zealand portion of the trip at the accommodation in Christchurch; it helped ease us out of hiking mode and the condo on the lake at the golf course was fantastic. We got a cab into town and enjoyed some nightlife in the post-quake CBD. The Bora Bora Resort was so relaxing - what a beautiful coral garden, beach, and overwater bungalow (the OWB was a huge highlight for us and completely worth it). Because every part of the trip offered something new and enjoyable we were never bored or looking ahead - obviously our agent had a good sense of what we were looking for because the trip, hotels, and included breakfasts were all exactly what we'd hoped for and more.
We would have gone straight from Queenstown to the West Coast glacier area, omitting the 2 nights in-between, and added a couple of nights along the Great Alpine Highway via Arthur's Pass instead. As hikers we were in awe on that drive from the glaciers to Christchurch and would have enjoyed that area enough to skip something earlier in the trip. In Tahiti we were glad to only have spent 8 hours in the hotel between flights - I'm allergic to mold and they definitely have a mold problem. Once in Bora Bora, at resort the main restaurant is extremely good (great chef), as was the bar food, but we did not enjoy the sushi restaurant (we had such amazing sushi elsewhere on the trip this didn't help); in hindsight we would stick to the main restaurant or the bar. Also, the Papeete airport is awful, and the travel from there to LAX was the low point of the trip. We missed our connection in LAX because of delays and problems in Papeete. If we could afford it we'd fly business class on that one leg.
