Amazing on-site service with use of a local phone which made a huge difference to us in an emergency. The itinerary was really good--we felt we saw everything important to us. And we were traveling as a family, so the special experiences they recommended for children--strudel-making in Salzburg, sliding in a salt mine in Berchtesgaden, summer tobogganing--made our trip truly memorable. I'd use this company and these agents.
Our 12-year-old loved the salt mine! The strudel-making class in the side of a mountain in Salzburg was really fun, particularly on a really hot day! Climbing in the alps around Eagle's Nest was spectacular. Prague's old town was delightful. And our hotel in Salzburg had a beautiful spa in the basement with a pool that we enjoyed as a family every evening and on a too-hot afternoon. Our hotels were very well situated and suited us well. The Prague hotel was huge and right on the town square, but still quiet. The Leonardo was also really delightful with a charming loft. The Salzburg hotel was a more conventional hotel, but the location was good and the gorgeous spa in the basement was very refreshing after long days of sight-seeing.
Arriving in Cesky Krumlov for lunch with an afternoon tour worked well. We realized, however, that the spectacular castle tower would be closed by the time we finished our private walking tour and we were leaving first thing the next morning, so we dashed off and saw that before our 3pm tour. I would suggest clients be given that suggestion because it would have been a real shame not to climb that tower and get that amazing view. The Panorama tour of Eagle's Nest combined with the salt mine was good but we didn't love the hour we had to spend at the end of that long day hanging around a town with everything closed except the restaurant the tour operator favoured--a small point. We tried the Carpe Diem restaurant in Salzburg and were disappointed. The food was delicious but the portion sizes were ridiculously small. We had to have a second dinner elsewhere. The Pasta e Vino was okay. The Alter Fuchs was great.
