Our travel agency was extremely organized and made everything so easy. If you really do NOT want to have to do much planning, then I highly suggest this travel agency. We had a phone call and discussed what we were looking for and everything from hotels, transfers to and from the airport, domestic air travel, and guides to and from excursions were organized. A detailed itinerary was also emailed and again given to us at pick up at the airport. Our trip to Thailand, packed a lot in to just 2 weeks and our travel company did it efficiently without wasting much time traveling, and they came in under budget! We traveled to Bangkok, Koh Phangan, Krabi, and Chiang Mai and I really believed we could not have seen that much on our own. That being said they also listened to our request for as much equal free time as planned excursions, giving us a day to explore or rest on our own and find things we may not have done otherwise. Our hotels were very nice despite the fact that we only requested 3 star hotels) and all of the guides very knowledgeable.
The most memorable parts of our trip are hard to pinpoint so I will pick one from each location since they were all different.
Bangkok: Amphawa Floating Market was interesting to see all of the vendors and food only accessible by boat.
Koh Phangan: Full Moon Party! We are a young newly married couple and wanted to get a little bit of partying in with the relaxation of our honeymoon. The full moon party was quite the experience that I recommend everyone do once, we had a great time, but may not do it again unless with a group of people, but something that we were definitely proud to have experienced. We also rented scooters here to explore the island. The roads are easy to navigate and it's a great way to explore this small island.
Krabi: The crystal clear waters, rainforest, and various islands. We did a 4 island tour here involving snorkeling and visiting some local islands which was fun as we got to meet other people and enjoy the sea and sun. On one of our "free" days we elected to do a rain forest tour and we also climbed 1,237 steps to Tiger Cave to the top of the mountain. The views were incredible!
Chiang Mai: We visited the Elephant Nature Park and it was the highlight of the trip. We did one overnight here and it was so nice to see elephants who were neglected or abused, living happily. We bathed the elephants and were able to feed them and walk with them. It was so nice to see them treated with respect and not being ridden or "trekking" humans through the jungle, and not performing tricks in circuses etc. We also loved the huge Sunday Night Market.
Our hotels were all very nice, and in our conversation with our travel agent we requested that we would rather have 3 star hotels and be in the center of the activity, than have 4 or 5 star hotels and be secluded. We are very active people that love to walk to shopping, restaurants, night life etc and even though it was our honeymoon we didn't really need to be in super quiet, secluded areas. Our hotel in Chiang Mai was perfect as it was right in the center of town and many attractions were within walking distance. However, our hotel in Krabi was beautiful but was so far from many attractions (the nearest ATM was a $12.00 cab ride away and our taxi to the night market cost $30 which is expensive by Thai standards), we would have to preferred to stay in the more active part of town with easier access to activities. We could not walk to any additional restaurants as there was a total of 3 other resorts on the beach that did not allow guests in that were not from their resort. That being said the hotel was gorgeous and had the most comfortable bed by far. Our hotel in Bangkok was pretty central, but our hotel in Koh Phangan was also pretty far away, we ended up booking a separate guesthouse the night of the full moon party since it was moved back a day so that we would have easier access to the ferry that morning since it was a 35 minute cab ride back to the hotel and another 45 minute cab ride to the ferry. This is mainly personal preference and there were no issues with the hotels themselves and the service was great. We just aren't the typical "honeymoon" couple and prefer more central locations with easy access to activities and ability to meet other travelers. Despite the hotels being a little remote, I would definitely use zicasso again and it removed a lot of the leg work and was so organized!
