My agent was very nice and helpful, but I guess I'm a bit old fashioned and would have preferred to
have my final documents sent to me via either FedEx or UPS Overnight. Sending things as important
as these via email can cause problems and delays. I know for a fact, which was verified, that the Trenitalia
trains, if ordered as paper tickets, could have been done earlier and sent as noted above as I was informed
that etickets could only be ordered a few days in advance, which posed problems for me. Overall, the trip was nice. I particularly liked Hotel Silla. In fact, I wrote them yesterday praising them for their fine service. Thanks to my travel agent's input as a result of my complaint proper adjustments regarding my room at the hotel in Rome was straightened out. What a difference it made. My assessment of this hotel greatly improved. The new room was a real charm.
However, I was greatly disappointed with my next hotel. While the staff was very nice and the breakfast was good, the place itself is a real dump -- certainly not what I would expect of a hotel. The ambiance was not only VERY Spartan to say the least but it reminded me of a college dormitory. Frankly, for what I paid for the trip I think I could have done better with accommodations in Perugia. Adding insult to the injury, were those horrendous stairs to climb especially with luggages (two flights).
Each stop had its own charm. My stay in Perugia was fleshed out with my excursions to Bevagna and Spello. The driver was very nice and helpful. I guess what will leave a permanent imprint on me was my stay in Rome. This city definitely has a lot to offer, to say the least, in history. The Palantine Hill and Forum were impressive. I was in awe over the
Baths of Catalla. Of course, Florence has nice art.
probably spend more time, say a week in Rome. The other places were nice but I think I saw what
I wanted. Back in 1970 I took a group tour of Italy. Since it was an accurate portrayal of the movie, "If Its Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium" and just skimmed over Rome and Florence this recent trip was definitely worthwhile.
