The travel company had good guides in Cusco and on the Inka trail. The guide in Lima was very nice, but hard to understand. I felt he showed us very little of Lima and we were disappointed.
We asked for vegetarian, vegan meals, and never received names of restaurants in Cusco that we could enjoy. More research should be done on this. We were let down. Some restaurants did not know what vegetarian is.
Too many days did not have full schedules of activities The church was closed in the morning in Cusco (which should have been checked out prior to our visit) especially given the hours were posted on a sign at the door. Our guide never took us back and told us to go on our own in the afternoon. The last day in Cusco with a ride of two hours each way to see the ruins was just too far at this point. Maybe this could have been done a day we had a free afternoon. No suggestions on what we should do with all the free time we had, especially in Cusco.
The hotel at Inkartarra was beautiful, but we arrived there at 4:30 in the afternoon, there were no lights until 6:00 and we left early the next morning to take visit the ruins of MP. We could not take advantage of the amenities and it was very expensive. You should have realized with our schedule, that another choice and less money would have been more suitable. The other hotels were very nice. When we had the shaman, we had only a few hours with him and then we were driven back to our hotel The Sonesta. There was an afternoon hike scheduled for the same day that never happened? We're not sure what the glitch was.
Our driver in Cusco was fabulous. Courteous, careful and very caring. The driver in Lima spoke English well and was very nice.
We did enjoy our time in Peru.
The most enjoyable moments and parts were in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and the hike in Machu Picchu. We enjoyed seeing the local artisans, in their studios.
If we did the trip again I would shorten the number of days and plan another hike before the Inka trail hike. Completely disappointed in what we saw in Lima. I can not recommend it to any one.
Travel Company's Comments:
Tobys program from the very beginning was very clear in terms of number of hours each tour would take and this was given right at the beginning when program was decided. Yes there was free time, but again this had always been clearly stated right from the beginning.
Arriving to the hotel at 4.30pm in Machu Picchu being to late, this is a normal situation for most people and also this was a full day hike that Toby took, so yes you will arrive around this time. To spend time in a hotel you need to have a day which is not active and in Machu Picchu, most people like Toby only spend one night and in this they are traveling to Machu Picchu by train or hiking, touring the Sanctuary you will have the evening and part of the next day in the hotel, but not much more. The Shaman as mentioned was given along with a soft hike and for the hours specified in the program.
The Cathedral visit was on the Sunday and would have been open that day for Church Services. The tour on last day in Cusco, is a popular program and in Lima, the City tour which we gave is a standard program and popular and covers the highlights of the Colonial Spanish Lima . The Guide for the Lima City tour was an English Speaker and used before, but we have noted Tobys point on this. In terms of restaruants In Cusco, Jessica our office manager did advise on the few establishments that are vegeterian.
Very sorry for any inconvenience Toby may have had, our objective is that everybody enjoys there holidays and when we have such comments we do take note and always try to improve.
