The planning on our trip was superb. We were very pleased with our travel agent. Zicasso provided 2 highly qualified companies to work with, and this agent did an outstanding job of listening to our needs and planning the literary. We planned on very short notice - 2 weeks from inception until we left for Australia and New Zealand. After a few tweaks, including a suggestion to alter the dates to avoid the crowds, we were booked in outstanding properties, and on a wide variety of tours. All of the flights, transfers, tours and tips were planned at a relaxed pace so we really got to enjoy each destination.
Our agent spent time with us prior to the trip to be sure we understood what to expect. As a result, we had no surprises - only delights. The fact that he has intimate knowledge of the properties and tour companies was very helpful. We would strongly recommend him!
Our trip was 28 days with 4 destinations in Australia and 6 destinations in New Zealand. We were glad we extended from our original plan of 21 days and feel like we had time to understand the culture and hit the highlights of both countries. Throughout the trip, we were booked on small group excursions with very knowledgeable guides.
We loved the trip from start to finish!
Cairns: Our hotel offered a spacious room and a great breakfast. The Kuranda Skyrail was an easy way to start after a long flight. Snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef provided a stark example of the impacts in the environment. Our guide was very knowledgeable on the Daintree 4wd tour.
Uluru: Seit Outback tours of Uluru and Kata Juta clearly demonstrated why this area has such meaning to the aboriginal people. The Field of Lights is amazing!
Sydney: Backstage at the Opera House, Cruising the Sydney Harbor, Featherdale Wildlife Preserve, and the Blue Mountains. We also had ample time to walk the city and explore Darling Harbor. We also took the bus out to Bondi Beach and walked the beach trail.
Melbourne: Walking Tour of Cafes and Laneways, Penguin Parade at Phillips Island. In our spare time, we became experts on the trams and saw Victoria Market and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Food in this town was EXCELLENT!
New Zealand South Island - Queenstown: Dart River Adventure - stunning scenery
TeAnau- Fabulous B&B, Milford Sound - even on a cloudy rainy day
Wanaka - Wanaka Lake Cruise - a very large lake, in a small boat. beautiful scenery
Franz Joseph - the drive to Franz Joseph, Haast Pass, viewing glaciers near the beach, Air Safari above the glaciers
Akaroa - we were glad we had time to explore this beautiful town
Wellington - Museums, growing cafe scene, Little Waffle Shop, Northern Explorer to Auckland
Aukland - Maritime museum, Hop On/Hop Off bus
