The travel company was fantastic. These travel agents were responsive and addressed issues that came up prior to the trip very well. Little details like providing a cell phone with prepaid minutes were very thoughtful.
The assigned driver was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. He is a big movie buff and pointed out sites from various movies which kept the kids entertained. I would recommend him to anyone traveling in Morocco.
The guides in Chefchouen, Fes, and Marrakech were very very good. Our entire family learnt a lot from them about the architecture, culture, food, government and history. We loved every second of the time we spent with them.
Most of the activities and places we stayed in were great. There were a couple of exceptions. The Riad in Fes was really not up to par compared to the other accommodations and for the price of the trip. The rooms were dingy, the rooms were not cleaned, even getting clean towels took two hours after being asked. The last couple of days of our trip in the Atlas mountains were also disappointing. The accommodations were very basic, and it seemed another party which went through the travel agency got a much better deal. We felt a little shortchanged. Also, two days in the High Atlas was too much. There isn't that much to do unless once goes for a multi-day hike which was not part of our plan. Lastly, while staying there were were taken for dinner to a place more than an hour and a half away, which was really an absurd set up. The dinner was reserved for 9 pm, and we had to leave by 7:15 pm and got back close to midnight. There was nothing so spectacular about the venue or the dinner. I think a special dinner was originally scheduled at a different location which did not materialize. I wish we were told of the change of plans and/or had the plans cancelled.
Overall, it was a great trip. I will be recommending it with a few changes to many of my friends and family.
The camel ride into the desert and the camping. We go camping often, and I had no idea this level of luxury camping was possible. The food and the people were fantastic as well.
Spend less time in the High Atlas, try more street food, spend an extra day in the desert. Maybe go further south to Essaouira.
Travel Company Comments
Thank you for taking the time to write about your trip with us to Morocco. We really appreciate your feedback and we're glad that you were able to enjoy your time in Morocco!
With regards to the riad in Fes, duly noted and sorry for any inconvenience. Riads are by definition very quirky and the experience will vary significantly from one to the next - this Riad in particular is one we’ve sent many guests in the past but we certainly take note of your points and please know that we have stopped working with this property as a result of your feedback.
With regards to the dinner Atlas Mountains, I wanted to explain that options for food and restaurants are very limited in this part of the country and we apologize for the long travel times to your restaurant on this night but we were trying to avoid you dining in the same restaurant twice.
Thanks again for taking the time to write, we're continually looking to improve our work and your thoughts are very helpful in getting us to offer an even better experience!
