Where to begin? Our anniversary trip to Italy was absolutely the trip of a lifetime and much of that was due to our agents and their company. From the beginning, they took the time to speak with us via phone and email to really understand what type of experiences we wanted and gave us many options. Their responses were always prompt and pleasant and everyone there was extremely knowledgeable. The hotels were all exquisite and in excellent locations. Lots of little touches, such as an upgrade or bottle of Prosecco to welcome us at most places! Each driver was prompt, respectful and friendly and the tour guides! Oh, we had the best guides. As I said, the tour guides were like having a new friend share their home with you; each person was from the place and knew so much in addition to the basics (such as art history, architecture, personal stories, etc.) Clearly, this company knows the best of the best for all aspects of Italy! We felt incredibly spoiled the entire time; having a driver pick us up so we didn't have to navigate transportation from airports/train or around unfamiliar places was wonderful. Each person was prompt, respectful and safe (a challenge on those Italian roads!!). I know we have a very special connection with Italy now thanks to the personal touches from our agents' planning and help!
Friends keep asking us for highlights and it is nearly impossible to choose favorites. Each region we visited - Tuscany, Venice, Amalfi Coast and Rome - was unique and special. We started in Tuscany at a wonderful resort. This renovated 12th century castle was a beauty in its own right, but the setting and the views… oh my, I had to pull myself away after 3 days! From there we visited some beautiful hill towns, and Siena was my absolute favorite. Something about its communities and history really touched me and I give credit to our tour guide for giving us an insider's view. Venice was amazing - we constantly wondered how somewhere like that can exist since it is so unlike any other place on Earth! We loved wandering around the tiny streets with our wonderful guide and the boat ride to Murano to the glass factory. But then we traveled to Positano and I fell in love again! This stunning town carved into the cliffs had views that again made us wonder how it can exist! We enjoyed wandering through the town and to the beachfront, and loved a boat ride trip to Capri. Another place it was hard to leave! Our last stop was Rome. We were simply amazed to see the sites we had only studied in books all of our lives!
The only regret is not having more time in a few places to really wander and get to know them, such as Florence or even Venice. We wanted to see as much of Italy as we could in our 11 days and I think we did just that. I would not change a thing! But I would go back and see more. :)
