I fell in love with Croatia! I have traveled the world and this trip was one of the top 2 in my life. First, the arrangements from our agent and this travel company - they were perfection and exceeded my expectations. She took what we requested and planned an exceptional itinerary that was the perfect blend of everything I wanted. She responded quickly to every request and was always flexible. She is clearly efficient and well-connected. The arrangements were top notch. Every tour guide and driver was on time, friendly, helpful and informative. They gave us such a nice perspective on the people and cultures of Croatia. I would highly recommend this travel agency and wish she could plan all my other travels in the future.
I can't say enough about how great this trip was and how much we appreciate all the work our agent put into the planning!!
Now for the trip; Croatia is a stunningly beautiful country. We loved going in late September when the weather was still gorgeous but the crowds were sparse. It is a very affordable country and most everyone spoke English and was friendly. We started in Split. It is a lovely town with a lot to see. We spent 3 nights. We did a day trip to Zadar. I loved Zadar and would have liked to stay there one night. The sea organ and the sun sculpture were so cool. We spent 1 night on the island of Hvar. We had a full day off road tour that was fantastic. My only advise is to do frequent bathroom breaks during the tour. It is a beautiful island and I would recommend at least 2 nights, if not 3. I will go back there soon as I was really taken by this island. We then went to Dubrovnik and had 3 nights there. It wasn't nearly enough time to explore the city and surrounding towns. We did a day trip to Montenegro. The town of Cavtat was nice and I would have liked more time to explore it. The food was great; lots of fresh seafood, vegetables, cheese and shellfish. We did a lot of half day tours which were great especially because we had a private guide and driver each day. I never want to travel any other way again! The pace of the trip was also perfect. We didn't have to rush from activity to activity and move hotels every day which we have done on other trips. We especially loved the drivers and the guides on Hvar.
Croatia has it all; fascinating history, lovely people and the most gorgeous scenery!
Try to go mid-September as the schedules were more limited after October 1. I loved Zadar and would have liked to stay there one night. I would have liked another night in Hvar. I would skip Montenegro if I were to do the trip again. I would have rather had the time in Dubrovnik. We asked for a day in Montenegro instead of the recommended Plitvice Lakes National Park. We probably should have gone there instead and added a couple days to the trip. We did a lot in the 6 full days we were there (8 days total with travel days). If I could have, I would have really liked 11 days at least. Given what we know now, it was still the best trip!!
