The travel team did a marvelous job, both during the planning phase of our trip and during the trip itself. While we were planning the trip, they supplied us with terrific suggestions for places to visit and for special activities and tours. Their deep knowledge of southern Italy, the Almalfi coast, and Sicily was certainly one of the reasons for the success of our trip. They were also helpful in finding the best places to eat. They recommended great restaurants! But I also want to add that they are good listeners. When I explained that one of the members of our group had difficulty walking long distances, they went the extra mile to inform the local guides so they could adapt to our needs, and to provide extra assistance like a wheel chair on one of the tours so our friend wouldn't miss out on seeing the Temple Valley. We also appreciated their careful attention to the day to day arrangements for tours and transfers. They made sure all our connections went smoothly and they were available 24 hours a day. They gave us an Italian sim card so we could call them when we had questions and our questions were always quickly answered. We couldn't have asked for more. They were like guardian angels on our trip.
One of the most enjoyable parts of our trip was the time we spent with our driver/guide in Sicily. While all the drivers on the trip were very competent, friendly and professional, he was extra special. He entertained us with interesting information and stories about each of the towns we visited, gave us tips on how to cook pasta Sicilian style, told us stories about the area and what to look for as we were driving, and he always made sure we were comfortable. He arranged the retrieval of an item left by accident at one of the hotels and by the time we left Sicily, he felt like family. I also want to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the drives through the countryside. The vans were comfortable and spacious, and it was a special treat to have someone drive us from one place to the next--so much more relaxing than trying to drive on our own.
Highlights of the trip for us were a stop at Erice, a wonderful town on a mountain top with incredible views of the sea, the Temple Valley and the Regional Archeological Museum of Agrigento, the Opera Edipo at the Greek Theatre of Syracuse, and Taormina. We stayed in a lovely hotel there with the most incredible views.
Along the way, other especially memorable parts of our trip included experiences like wine-tasting, making mozzarella, and exploring the island of Capri by boat. Positano was also breathtaking. What views!
If we were to take this trip again, we would stay longer at each "stop" in the itinerary. We moved along at a fairly good pace, and at times that was tiring for us, since we are all over 70. And, I would spend more time in places like Erice and less time in Palermo, more time in Positano and less time in Capri. But for a first trip, I wouldn't change a thing. We had a good experience of the "landscape," especially of Sicily. I'm already thinking about our next trip to Italy and I will definitely contact this company again. They are a first rate team.
