Our travel company provided us with a personalized itinerary that gave us an incredible experience during our first visit to Italy. We wanted to see as much as possible in two weeks and our travel representative arranged all of our trains, drivers, hotels and tours in Rome, Amalfi Coast, Florence, Tuscany and Venice. All of the hotels were centrally located and walking distance to all of the sights. Our visit to Tuscany included a unique, sophisticated stay at a Villa with an amazing view and a fun tour to a winery. This company listens to its clients and provides the necessary experience to ensure the best quality. The tours were professional and small groups. I do suggest that visitors prepare for walking everywhere and be prepared for a lot of steps. We packed everything in carry-on suitcases and small back packs for each of us and we had everything we needed. I highly recommend keeping the luggage light because there is a lot of travel on trains and cars if you plan multiple locations. Hotels provide laundry service if needed. Our travel company spoiled us and we felt very special each day. All of the drivers and guides were professional and friendly. We highly recommend this company for a great experience and top-notch service. We didn't have any stress or worry because all of the details were taken care of by our travel company. It was well worth the price and having all the hotels, trains and transportation prepaid made the trip easy. We also had daily contact with them as necessary through the use of a phone provided at the beginning of the trip.
Amalfi coast was amazing - beautiful and great food.
Rome was also a great experience and fantastic meals. Everyone is friendly. Pompeii, Collesium, boat to and from Capri Island.
Tuscany visit for two nights at an amazing Villa in Volterra.
Skip time at Capri Island but just plan a boat trip in the Mediterranean. Capri is overrated - too many tourists and a lot of exhaust smell from cruise ships.
I would not visit Venice again, although I'm glad I saw it. Too congested with tourists and high-end brand shopping. Food is not as good as other locations and it's designed for tourists - lost its appeal as a true Italian experience.
Spend an extra day in Florence - 2 nights was not enough time.
Vatican tour was too long and it is too crowded even with an early start and skip the line. Visit the St. Peters Basilica alone. The tour of the Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museum and St. Peters is 4 hours and packed with people.
Inquire about length of tours - most are a minimum of 3 hours or more.
