Initially, it was really hard for me to believe that someone had planned my trip to such detail as described in the itinerary. It was almost too much to believe! I was so worried it would all just fall apart, until we arrived in Rome and the driver was waiting . . . and the train tickets worked . . . and the hotel had our itinerary . . . wow!
Our travel agent and his team did an amazing job planning a perfect trip for our family. The excursions and tour guides were fantastic! Except for the Vatican, we had private guides and wonderful tours of places that we would have never found on our own. Every member had a favorite moment, and at no time was anyone unhappy. Every single day was perfectly planned. What was especially wonderful was the service - every day, someone knew (not just us) what we where doing, where we were going, who was picking us up, etc. I never had to worry about a thing. It was really amazing.
We were so happy to know that someone was thinking about us during our entire 2 week stay. We were not forgotten! And in the rare moment that we had a question, our agent was online very quickly responding via text or WhatsApp. We felt very cared for and will definitely be using this travel agent and his team again!
We did not have a single bad moment. But, the most memorable parts were:
Hotel in Tuscany - this was such a beautiful place to stay. Our children (13, 12 ,8) loved it. The owner is a really lovely man from Argentina who told us such great stories about the property and the area. And we had such a great experience in Tuscany! Favorite things were: learning to bake bread (all kinds) in Siena, the tour of Siena (right before the Paleo), and a mountain bike ride (hard, beautiful, super fun!).
Sorrento - our location and hotel was fantastic. We loved the glamour, the pool, and the views were spectacular. Our favorite day was at Schiazzano, making cheese, pizza, and touring the lemon farm. One of our all-time favorite experiences as a family!
Rome - the food recommendations by our travel agent were spot-on. The best food we had was in Rome, which was really surprising, after being in so many small towns where one would expect the best food. We loved our private tour of the Colusseum and Forum - she was fantastic and so good with the kids. And Gladiator School was absolutely hilarious.
I would to Amalfi differently. We loved the views and the weather, but we are a very active family and would probably have done more "touring" on our day with our driver than what was planned. We definitely enjoyed ourselves, but I think we would have preferred a much shorter lunch and more touring of the area, like Paestum. I also would tell people that Amalfi is really busy and touristy, and going to both Positano and the town of Amalfi is not necessary unless you like the crazy tourist scene. Do one, and then hit other things less crowded (Sorrento was lovely).
