The trip was planned perfectly. I can't imagine not having our travel agent! When we got our quote from her, she made sure to call us and talk to us in person about what our hobbies are, what kind of culture we would like to experience, and was very respectful in terms of budget. We told her we loved trying food, wine, and experiencing the cultures from the country's perspective. She delivered. Many of food/wine tours were the highlights of our trip. She also made sure to do "classic" tourist destinations, like the Eiffel Tower.
We wanted to go to multiple countries, (and we did!) and our agent was very realistic about what that would take. She wanted to make sure we would be okay with a 7 hour train ride, etc. It was our honeymoon, and all the hotels were expecting us. Many hotels made nice gestures such as champagne, chocolate, and dessert. I can't explain how nice it was to have everything perfectly planned out after planning a wedding.
Like all trips, there were a few mishaps such as a train ride that got delayed by an hour or two, and a cab driver that never showed. No mistakes were the agency's fault, but our agent was always readily available for a phone call and kept in touch via email.
So many favorite parts! One of them was going to the Beaujolais region of France, and seeing the countryside while it's snowing. We were way up high in the mountains. There were magical Christmas decorations and had some wine drinking. The tour guide was fantastic.
Another favorite part, was just getting lost in the cities. We got lost in Rome at night. It turned out to be anything but scary. It was so fun! We went around to little restaurants and sampled food. We saw a special event with pink balloons at a plaza. After that night, we felt like we started to know the city.
The most "I can't believe we're here" moment was the boat tour in Paris. It was a little difficult to get there, but once we did, it was so awesome. We listened to French music, ate great food, and got to see many famous landmarks. The boat drove past the Eiffel Tower right as it was lighting up.
The only thing we would do differently, was probably the walking tour in Paris. It was early December, so it was rainy, cold, and we walked everywhere without actually visiting the landmarks and taking time to learn about them. The tour guide was nice, but seemed rushed and uninformative. Maybe it was just a bad day. If we went back around that time, I would rather take an indoor tour, or a bus tour so we wouldn't have to walk in the rain.
