Trip was awesome!!!
We had a couple of "hicups" but our agent is suppose to be fixing one of them.
1) We got on the wrong ferry in Santorini to Mykonos. They don't check tickets until everyone is one and they are leaving, of course, by then it's too late to get off and wait for the right ferry. In our defense no one told us our ferry was late and the early one was late too but showed up at 11:00 which was the scheduled time for our ferry. We were also told that the ferry's have all been repainted and to not go by that. Needless to say it was very scary and embarassing as we had to sit inside the Pursor's ofc. (there was 10 of us that did it, which I suppose isn't many considering there were 100's on board. (unfortunately our agent used our home desk computer to send emails - so I never got any!) So we had to pay approx $200.00 more for the mix-up. MY HUSBAND HAS THE RECEIPT.
2.) The HOTEL IN YOUR PICTURE IS NOT the hotel we stayed at. I don't know what happened or if you have the wrong picture but the hotel we stayed at was right off the harbor and DOES NOT have a pool or look anything like your picture! NEITHER DOES THE AREA!! The hotel was BY FAR not up to your company's standards!!! It smelled bad, our rooms were down and around the hall from our daughters (Fortunately one of our daughters is 22, so we felt better our 12 year old was with her); the bathtub was chipped and marred in several places. Luckily it was only for 1 night!!
The other hotels were beyond our expectations. We all loved them and would give them a way beyond excellent review. But if we had to pick a favorite it would be the Vallais Villas!
It was also very difficult to call the company # so we contacted and spoke to our agent via her cell #.
The private boat tour in Crete/Chania was amazing.
The Samaria Gorge hike was quite difficult even for a seasoned runner like me and my 2 daughters. My husband should have never done it due to his back (his decision obviously - but a bad one nonetheless!!!) We should have done the 4 1/2 one. The 10 mile one was just too long when you include the traveling to and from the gorge! In retrospect we definitely would've done the half day one!!!!!
We enjoyed all our other excursions, the private sail with our guide was probably my favorite ( he provided an awesome lunch, great sail boat, and he was very enjoyable to be around; the semi private catamaran sailing in Santorini with an amazing meal was terrific; and the horseback riding was fun too - a lot of dust flying everywhere but the terrain can't be helped, I suppose. The Konossos's Palace and museum was enjoyable and very educational, but our daughters didn't seem as engaged as we would have liked. Oh and the first excursion in Athens was interesting as well - quite crowded on the way out, but still worth visiting!
We rented a car in Santorini and that was an adventure in itself! Boy do we respect and appreciated the drivers in Santorini!!
Not do the 10 mile hike at the Samaria Gorge, just the half day one!
NOT stay at the hotel in Hereklion. Probably after the Konosso's Palace - taken the ferry straight over to Mykonos. Hereklion was not an enjoyable place to visit. And the hotel was awful!! The picture in your itinerary isn't the SAME!!!!! I don't know what happened.
We would also probably stay longer in Santorini - so beautiful and we would definitely stay at the Vallais again!! LOVED IT!! And Casa Delfino!!!
Maybe fly into a different place other than Athens as well and go to some less inhabited towns. We met someone on the ferry that went and stayed at a place (cant think of the name) but it had an old castle and they stayed there and said it was not crowded at all. Something like that probably!!
We would make sure our travel agent had our correct travel email and that we could contact him/her while away!
And make sure we don't get on the WRONG ferry again!!!
Travel Company Comments
Dear Mrs. R,
I would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review on behalf of our company and services. We appreciate your feedback as it’s always very important to us! Based on your trip experience we also thank you for recently referring us to your friends who are also looking to travel to Greece since you know and “trust” that we strive for excellent service. Regarding your observations of the boat experience and the photo of the hotel please note the following:
For the boat we have already refunded you the $200 as a courtesy of the confusion. This year there were many changes from the ferry companies to include new boats, new names and of course it got confusing and we are sorry for this. We tried to communicate all the details to you to avoid this from happening but since it happened we understand and therefore we have already applied a courtesy refund.
Regarding the hotel in Heraklion. Our agent indeed used by slipup the wrong photo as part of your travel documents because there are two hotels with the exact same name. We have the correct website but the wrong photo and we are very sorry for this. Because you were staying only for 1 night we chose a less expensive hotel compared to the rest of the itinerary, to meet your travel budget and for the only reason that this hotel is right at the harbor which makes it easy for you to transfer from the hotel to the port (less than 10 minutes). We have forwarded your comments to the hotel as well.
Overall once again we appreciate you trusting us for your trip to Greece and overall we know after talking on the phone that you had a fabulous time and we again appreciate your referrals of your friends trusting us that their trip will be just as fabulous (with of course less confusion) .
Thank you again
