Our accommodations were fantastic. Most of our guides were excellent. Two exceptions. 1. the guide in Suzhou was late, which was very stressful for us. 2. one night in Beijing we were required to walk back to our hotel in Old Beijing because our road was under construction We were not told in advance that this would happen and it was our first time going to the hotel by ourselves in this location. Again a rather nerve wrecking experience, although we arrived without incident, the fact that you cannot just ask anyone if this is the right way makes it difficult.
Communication about itinerary changes were never communicated to us directly, but to the local guides. And the travel agency local contact telephone number for emergencies that was listed in our travel packet was not complete. When our guide did not show up, we called the emergency number only to be given a message of " this number is not in service". We needed a country code to contact him. Also my traveling companion had trouble checking in for her international flight because the travel agency had misspelled her name. So this set an apprehensive tone for the trip.
So there are many, many wonderful things that were arranged for us, but also a variety of small things that need addressing. Communicating directly with the customer and giving them the correct contact information would be key.
