Wonderful Australians. Great food. Beautiful country. Extraordinary weather.
Sydney to die for. Easily the standout reason to make the trip. What city integrates beaches, easy water access, great year round weather, thriving CBD and business life, sophisticated cuisine, smiling fellow life travellers so seamlessly ? None that I ve discovered in a lifetime of extensive travelling.
Rachel at this agency was a pleasure to deal with. Sunniest disposition. Any changes requested as we went along were no problem, arranged with seeming delight and encouragement.
The recommended and reserved Room 143 at the park Hyatt smack opposite the wonderful and better than in pictures Sydney opera house is the best city hotel room we ever stayed in. The view from the wide windows overwhelms all else, the low 1st floor just above the wooden boardwalk and the water provides a rare human scale that delightfully makes one feel as if lounging on that lovely boardwalk while secure and pampered. Winning and clever design all around.
Because this agent seems to be a significant and influential agent we were able to make changes and get out of some hotel commitments without penalty which would have been a hassle or impossible otherwise. For us this was just a call, a wish and they took care of all.
Zicasso for us was extremely helpful in that without it we would have had the toughest time identifying a top reliable agent on our own. Don't know if all their agents are like Rachel and this agency but this worked a charm for us.
Where do I begin?
Magical Sydney of course.
Whitehaven beach and whitsundays island.
The cute cute kangaroos and seals on kangaroo island.
Memorable food: the supreme mushy peas, the sliced zucchini and the historical chips at rockpool bar and grill in Sydney.
Everything at peacock & in Hobart : delicate, exquisite, beautifully presented and awesomely delicious.
We would have gone to cairns and gotten more of the Great Barrier Reef and skipped Tasmania which to us layman was not that different an experience than kangaroo island less the kangaroos: awesome rock formations, humbling nature, adorable seals, luxury-hotel-in-forbidding-wilderness experience. Hobart is not special enough despite off the wall MONA museum, more crazy art than beautiful. The 4 Tasmania days we would have preferred in retrospect some GBR, 1 more day in Sydney and maybe 1 more in qualia Hamilton island. That would have given us a comprehensive feel for Australia in just 2.5 weeks. Not bad for such a vast country that can easily sustain mesmerizing visitors that stay 3 months or more.
Of course Australia is far from everywhere. But it is a lot closer than paradise. And maybe, quite possibly, not that different?
