This travel company provided an excellent experience beginning with a representative meeting us at the gate upon arrival in Cape Town, retrieving our luggage for us and delivering us to our guide for the trip to the hotel. Unfortunately, I suffered food poisoning from the airline food on the trip to Africa and spent much of the first two days in the hotel, but our travel agent met with my wife and helped her find appropriate fluid replacement and set up a possible physician visit should I need it - very personal involvement and caring.
Our travel agent chose outstanding venues for us in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana with varying styles of lodges, all with fantastic and friendly personnel and guides. She also booked us into two lovely hotels - which provided outstanding service and wonderful experiences.
Victoria Falls was amazing both by ground and by helicopter and the wildlife viewing in all three lodges spectacular.
We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
The entire trip was memorable so I will pick three or four of the best.
In Leopard Hills near Kruger in South Africa in addition to seeing 5 different leopards in three days, we experienced an elephant walk over to our back deck which was open to the bush, place one knee on the deck and stick his trunk into our plunge pool and spend twenty minutes drinking from the pool ten feet from our room. Wow!
The walk along Victoria Falls was breathtaking. When they talk about wearing a rain poncho to protect against the "mist," what they mean is that you will experience, in some areas of the 3 kilometer walk, what it feels like to be in a hurricane. The falls creates its own weather including, in spots, wind and torrential rain. But it was really fun and exciting.
At our last venue, Savute Safari Lodge, in Botswana, on our last day we viewed three huge and beautiful male lions strategize and execute the take down of a zebra, a powerful and brutal part of nature and one rarely seen even by the guides themselves.
In Savute and Camp Xakanaxa, also in Botswana, each night the staff performed with singing and dancing in local tradition before dinner. They seemed to genuinely enjoy doing it.
Absolutely nothing! The 21 days was just the right length of time. The time in Cape Town was well spent adjusting after travel and viewing a beautiful coast line and city as well as Table Mountain. Victoria Falls and the Victoria Falls Hotel for two days was wonderful, and all three camps provided a variety of experiences and atmospheres. In all three the staff were wonderful and the wildlife viewing spectacular. Wildlife viewing at Camp X was not as successful as the other 2, but living in the woods in northwest Montana, we know that the critters don't appear on demand. Unfortunately, we never got to see the Camp X mascot, Oscar the rhinoceros, but we did hear him walking around our tent lodge at night. It seemed, however, that communication between guides in the area at Camp X was not as functional (poor cooperation between guides and poor communications equipment) as Savute and contributed to the lack of success.
