My girlfriend and I were excited to travel to Peru but didn't have much time in the months prior to the trip to do detailed planning. Paul from our travel company contacted us through Zicasso and gave us some great ideas right away. We told him about the kinds of things we wanted to do and the places we were interested in seeing and he was able to put together a detailed itinerary that was far beyond what we had been able to plan on our own. He worked with us willingly on the details and gave us a great travel plan.
On our way to Peru we had a cancelled flight that caused us to be re-routed. We contacted Paul and he made the necessary adjustments to our itinerary without issue. However, when we arrived at the airport we had found that our airline had misplaced one of our pieces of luggage. We told our driver about the situation and he was able to inform Paul, who met us at our hotel to introduce himself and make sure we knew how to contact him while we were in the country. He even took us to the mall to get necessary items when we realized that our luggage wouldn't arrive in time for us to leave for the Inca Trail.
In addition to the situation above, Paul also worked with the airlines to adjust our flights without additional expense when my girlfriend became sick just prior to our planned departure for the Amazon, and was no longer fit for that leg of the trip.
Overall, we were extremely happy to have booked our reservation with Paul and this company. Not only did he do a great job working with us so that we were happy with the itinerary, he also worked with us extensively while we were in Peru to make sure things were either going to plan or that, when they weren't, we were still happy and accommodated.
The trip was excellent overall. We spent time in Lima, Cusco, and the Sacred Valley before departing on a 4 day hike on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. After the Inca Trail we spent two additional days in Cusco recovering and enjoying the beautiful city before departing for Lima and returning home again.
The complete experience was wonderful, as we were able to learn so much about Peru's history and culture. My favorite part of the trip was the Inca Trail. The scenery of the Andes was breathtaking and Machu Picchu and the surrounding area completely lived up to all expectations. Cusco is also a beautiful and friendly city with lively culture, immense amounts of historical significance, and great food.
Our original itinerary called for us to spend a few days in Cusco, spend 4 days on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and then spend 2.5 days in the Amazon. If I could do the trip again I would have went to the Amazon first, then went to Cusco and spend a few days recovering, relaxing, and washing clothes. This would have provided a nice break in the middle of two active and strenuous vacation activities.
