This was a fantastic trip. Clearly the experience of a lifetime. Our travel planner at this tour company was most helpful with suggestions (such as delaying our departure by a month so we could have sunlight in Svalbard when we got there), readily available throughout the trip facilitating requested changes we discovered as we traveled, and smoothing the way throughout. This tour company is the first tour operator we have used (we have booked a number of trips through Zicasso) that detailed the entire trip in an app we downloaded in our phones before we left. All of the trip details (itineraries, locations for meeting guides and the times, inclusions and exclusions) were this immediately available at all times without having to refer to a pice of paper. The paper copy was provided as well, but we never referred to it, using the app constantly. The app also provided a direct message link to our travel planner which he monitored constantly so any question was answered very quickly and without the expense of international phone calls.
Traveling to the north of Norway in the winter was unbelievable. The Svalbard landscape is like no other place in the world. Snowmobiling on glaciers and frozen sea ice to the front edge on the glaciers, dog sledding, ice fishing, king crab fishing and eating (yum) right out of the fjord, and snowshoe hiking were truly unique bucket list types of adventure to say nothing of the experience of seeing the Aurora Borealis in person. The only thing we missed was a chance to see any polar bears. We looked, but none were around. It is a great time - March - to go because there are so few other tourists that you have almost unlimited flexibility, no lines anywhere the sun is up, and the Aurora is still viewable. Yes, it was cold, but with proper clothing, shoes, hand and foot warmers we we not uncomfortable. Also, the dog sledding and snow mobiling folks have complete sets of outer wear from body suits, to boots, to outer gloves, and helmets with visors that they provide as part of their adventure package to give you an extra layer of warmth.we would highly recommend a vacation like this to anyone who loves the outdoors and is looking for a truly unique travel experience.
Although we had been to Copenhagen previously, in retrospect it would have been nice to spend another two or three days. It is a lovely city. If one has not been to Copenhagen, the three days/two nights we spent would not have been enough. Also after experiencing the food tour in Copenhagen, a similar experience in Stockholm would have been lovely. The food tour guide company we used also has operations in Stockholm.
