We never lacked for anything. The guides supplied were friendly and knowledgeable. The hotels were comfortable and the food was great.
The only problem we had were the directions to Hakone, which gave 2 alternatives. Our train stopped at Odawara, and the was the destination on the tickets. Therefore, we wound up walking for about 20 minutes, which was very difficult for my husband. Then we took a taxi.
I would give them 4 stars.
We really enjoyed Economy Plus seating on the plane. It made a world of difference to my husband.
The guide book supplied by our travel company was invaluable!
Our guide was warm, friendly, knowledgeable and easy to work with. She was easy to understand and very helpful.
We loved the entire trip, seeing Tokyo, Hakone, Nikko, and Kyoto were invaluable and very interesting. I was sorry we couldn't work in Kamakura as well. We loved being able to go anywhere on the subways. We stumbled onto a high school Sumo wrestling competition, for which admission was not collected, and which was very interesting. The guidebook provided some tips. One important one we followed was to bring American cookies. I brought a box (18) 2-packs of Oreo cookies. One young woman went out of her way to walk us to the right platform for the train. We'd never have made it on our own; the train system is daunting for a trip like ours. You should have seen people's faces light up when I offered them the cookies.
We loved the contrast between the old and new Japan, the preservation of the arts, and the modernization of the cities. We enjoyed the city streets and the country lanes.
The meals were all varied and interesting. We enjoyed every dish and always had more than enough.
We really appreciated the guide book and its recommendations.
The one thing I would do is stay longer; but for this trip, we were constrained by our grandson's school schedule.
I don't know if they still have circus performances, but I would have loved to see the Japanese circus again. I was in Japan as a young girl and saw a circus at that time.
I would also like some recommendations for restaurants. The book may have contained them, but usually only one person held the book, so the others had to rely on spoken information.
