I'll divide our trip in three parts, the pick-up/delivery service by our drivers, the guided tours with a Roman, and the hotel accommodations. The best part, with no down side, was the Rome tours. Our guide was professional and an excellent student of Roman history. Our side trip to Pompeii was disappointing, but we had no guide and the ruins were crowded and uninteresting. A local guide would probably have been advisable. However, the driver was very good, spoke English and the limo was comfortable for the long drive. The pick-up service at Civitavecchia worked out very nicely. The driver was at the right place, at the right time and spoke enough English to give us a running commentary of the sights as we approached Rome. However, the delivery service back to the Rome airport was not handled well. Everything was fine until the driver dropped us all off at Terminal 1 for Delta airlines. Unfortunately Delta was located in Terminal 3 and we had to carry our luggage a long way to that terminal. We did manage to get some carts inside terminal 1. Still, there were three senior citizens (75 to 85) and the long walk pushing a cart was not easy. To make matters worse the Delta terminal required a lot more walking for check-in, security, etc. I was sorry I had tipped the driver. Lastly, the hotel in Rome was only fair for a 4 star hotel. The services were very good along with the dining room, but the attempt to modernize the rooms was not very good. The lighting was very modern but dim. Trying to get a clean shave was an adventure. Reading was a strain. There was no comfortable chair other than a desk chair so one of us always had to sit on the bed. There was only one drawer at the bottom of the wardrobe so we left most of our clothes in our suitcases. The night tables had no drawers so all our glasses, wallets and loose pocket items were fighting with the telephone for space. All-in-all the room design was not user friendly. End of comments.
The Rome guided tours.
Delete the Pompeii/Sorrento portion. Too long a drive for Pompeii ruins and crowded Sorrento.
