Our European trip to Amsterdam, Brugge, Normandy, Paris, London, Cornwall, Wales and Scotland consisting of 42 days was complicated because of all the cities and related transportation between venues. We had no regrets over any of the amenities, the transportation arrangements (planes, trains and automobiles) and our planners did an outstanding job in listening to our interests and organizing our trip far better than we could have on our own. This was a 45th wedding anniversary trip and we did not want to do any on the driving as we have on other international trips. That was a great decision on our part as it took away concerns as to driving while viewing, alternate driving routines and general challenges in driving in new places. The hotels, guides and drivers, and arrangement for tours all went extremely well. The real test is that we would not have done anything significantly different. We have a trip of a lifetime and we have travelled through many parts of the world. This is the third time we have used Zicasso for our trips and this travel company surpassed even our loftiest expectations based on prior trips. Thanks to all involved in helping to create an outstanding trip. This travel company was outstanding to work with and I would have no reservations in using them again or recommending them to other travelers.
Normandy was especially memorable given my father's involvement in World War II. The Normandy area brings to mind the respect and gratitude for those who served and how ominous it would have been for young Midwestern farm boys and others coming into Omaha Beach. The remaining physical attributes of WWII and WWI including the cemeteries are needed, respectful and humbling memories of war. The respect for the allies and specifically the Americans was very prevalent, particularly in France.
All the areas were quite enjoyable and memorable. We feel that we know have a deep understanding of the people, geography, culture, economy, politics and religion of this part of Europe. There is diversity that is hard to capsulize into a few words.
Amsterdam-bikers and canals everywhere, great architecture, wonderful people with live and let live culture. Amsterdam is less liberal than I had thought. Beautiful flowers.
Brugge was a wonderful experience, beautiful town, great people, outstanding art and a friendly and fun place to visit.
Giverny had great gardens, good food and great people--The French at rest.
Paris -Great place to visit with lots to see, the size of Paris makes travel a little challenging. Very diverse population, lots of history with great buildings, challenging language but accommodating people.
London- Very interesting city with the past linkage to the US.
Cornwall and Wales great diverse parts of the UK, slower paced and smaller towns. Easy to get around. Wales was like a different culture than rest of UK.
Scotland was great even though we had spent time there before. Edinburgh, Skye, Inverness, Nairn etc. were relaxing.
Very, very, little. That's how good the trip was. We built in some slow days at each location to recover and pace ourselves so we had energy and enthusiasm throughout the trip. We are already planning our next international trip.
